My greatest concern with SA MTG at the moment is the callous disregard Blowfish Entertainment has for the brand. As evidence I am quoting from Blowfish's official website (or blog as they insist on calling it for some strange reason): www.magicsa.co.za/

South Africa has 13 official languages and yet after being active as the distributor in ZA for more than a year Blowfish is still far from mastering English.

Myself and others who are comfortable with the English language have offered to help them. Our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The constant use of poor and unclear English on the official website drives away potential players and hurts the MTG brand.

    Let me give 3 examples:

"As of the 3rd of December, Magic will be available at the brand new BT Games store at the V&A Waterfront shopping centre in Cape Town that is opening that same day!"

Why is it neccesary to put "that is opening the same day". The post already tells the reader right at the start that the store is opening on the 3rd of December.

"The South African PTQ for the Magic Weekend in Paris is coming up on the 10th of December!"

The PTQ is for the Pro Tour in Paris surely? Why does Blowfish go against WOTC's marketing thrust by turning a Pro Tour into a (or the?) Magic Weekend. Surely if anything was the Magic Weekend it would be the World Championships which will be held in Japan this year. As a previous participant in Worlds I am saddened that Blowfish now seems to think attending a Pro Tour is a higher honour.

"Blowfish Entertainment is having a new OP support. His name is Treveshan Pather and he is going to take the responsibility of building the community further on his shoulders! He is 23 years old and has played Magic at least for the last 10!"

What is OP? Organized Play? If we assume OP stands for Organized Play, which is unclear in the post, then Blowfish is having a new Organized Play Support named Treveshan Pather(?). This makes no sense and is unclear. 'building the community further on his shoulders' (?) - IMHO a strange choice of phrase which again reveals that Blowfish lacks a single person who is competent with the English language on their staff. "He is 23 years old and has played Magic at least for the last 10!" - the use of at least here is unnecesary.

I remind the reader that this is the official site which is being administered by people who get a salary. Their job is to grow MTG in South Africa and not to destroy the brand and/or the English language.

I hope this gets read by some senior WOTC peeps and ask that Blowfish either takes the website seriously or takes it down. Currently MTG ZA resources are being spent on a website that does more harm than good. This is clearly an absurd situation which should end ASAP.

Just goes to show, South African Magic is on the decline in a big sort of way. Some where something is not on the Up and Up hey. Thank heavens for MGTO.
