This part caught my eye, "Down the centuries, many elven crowns and a handful of human and dwarven ones have magically retained some of the memories or even the sentience of previous wearers."
Cormyrean nobles where crowns of rank that denote rank and station.
I bet a few of these are haunted. :D

In my Eberron based homegame I have the fabled Galifar crown and others from each of the five nations possess some memory recollection of things pertaining to the nation. Each crown forged from minerals and gems found in the heart of each possessing a land sentience and loyalty to the lineage of Galifar heirs. Some crowns confuse and others aid depending on the wearers true bloodline. Great minds think alike.

I like the proximity hooks--that is, bits of information about Cormyr (as Cormyr is north and east of Harpwood) that DMs can use to build adventures around.
For example: suppose the Greatgaunts have summoned Maranthae Greatgaunt, but she refuses to return to Cormyr. Call up adventurers to bring her back.

I've been thinking about how to offer constructive thoughts on this article. Here's my best shot:
1) It hits me as a large wall of text/speech. I agree with EvilDM's suggestion that it would be better broken up. I'd much rather have players uncover these details as their characters interact with each location than try to hold their attention for a long monologue. If one must go with a tour guide, make it a tour guide. How about a street urchin who offers to guide the players around...

Love this. I've always been upset by roleplaying worlds where the economy didn't make sense (who has 5 million GP hanging around to give you when you sell that magic item in the local town?), and this article fills a role that, though I never considered it, is totally necessary, AND also makes sense within the economy of the Realms. Thanks so much for this. I'd also pay money for a collection of these articles.

These articles are great for mining roles and jobs people are called themselves and by others in the realms. I had to look up most of some of the archaic terms on the dictionaries online, for actual literal definitions or word history. This article saves me time on running a flavor filled game with people with real modeled 'medieval' related time period roles in any community you might cross.
I think that in our current age, when we don't usually read texts with those names of job roles...
