On (what’s left of) the Forgotten Realms forums, I’m known as a Troll. It’s a reputation I didn’t get by accident.

Because of this reputation there are times when I make mundane statements in a thread that other forum users respond to as though I’m attacking them.

When some users see my screen name they assume anything I write is hostile; anything in response to them an attack. In that instant when they see my name, in their minds they’re no longer dealing with just another user, they’re dealing with an enemy.

It doesn’t matter in the slightest if my statements are well and truly mundane and on topic; they will still transform the words on the screen into a frontal assault on their person, and react accordingly.
