UUD. As much as it pains me to do this, I'm going to have to attempt to rely on luck: I cast Resounding Scream . So, Wolfpack, does random.org say I have a chance? Battlefield: Island Mountain Swamp Swamp 1/1 Red Goblin Token attacking Parapet Watchers attacking GY: Dragon Fodder , Resounding Scream Ex: Hand: 3 Library: 7 Life: 12

Probably the worst card I could hit. I must, perforce, concede. At this point, I may be able to draw the game by using my Disembowel on the Apprentice. As long as I can hold a counter and mana up for when you try for your Hollowborn Barghest , we'll eventually reach a point where my creatures equipped by the Spike stare down your Royal Assassin. Unfortunately for me, since you won the first game, if we draw game 3, the match goes to you any way. Good game. I made a significant error in drafting by misassigning my role--the Spike basically makes me the Control deck in most matches, but I drafted a couple of different cards thinking I was the Beatdown. I specifically failed to chose a key card that could have dealt with your assassin....ah well.

Good games. (I had Lightning Bolt and the Barghest in hand)
Your quick beatdown was what I was most afraid of actually. The Spike makes most races go your way and my only "answer" to it is a proactive River's Grasp. If you get down White Knight and two fliers then I have a really tough time removing them before they Spike me to death.
I think a deck like 2x plains, 2x island, Knight, Zephyr, Harpoonist, Spike would force me to have a very good draw to win.

I think a deck like 2x plains, 2x island, Knight, Zephyr, Harpoonist, Spike would force me to have a very good draw to win.
That was what I thought while drafting, but eventually I realized that the Spike isn't nearly as fast as it seems to be. My fastest possible clock would be turn 1 Sprite, turn 3 Spike, Turn 4 equip. That works out to:
1: 20 life 2: -1 = 19 3: -1 = 18 4: -1 = 17 / 2 = 8 5: -1 = 7 / 2 = 3 6: -1 = 2 / 2 = 1 7: Fatal
So you have 6 turns to get the Lightning Bolt , Skeletonize , River's Grasp , or Royal Assasin , or Sparkmage Apprentice , assuming an optimal draw from me (Sprite + Island in opening hand, + 2 more lands and Spike in the remaining 4 cards). When I don't get that optimal draw, you have plenty of time to stabilize. In particular, the Assassin locks in the win as long as you save any of the first three spells for the Knight.

Hmm, true. Until partway into Game 2, I thought that the Spike gave +2/+1 as well, so that's probably why I was so scared of it
