    Mordrim's Quest Episode 1

    Wednesday, February 24, 2010, 6:39 AM

It is a land filled with mystery, danger, adventure, and the promise of knowledge and riches worthy of the gods. It was a land that Mordrim needed to discover, but not on his own.

The only aspect of Mordrim's soul that burns more intensely than his thirst for knowledge and adventure, is his wisdom. He knows that it is a land filled with danger, deception, and death. It is a land that no adventurer can survive on their own. Therefore, Mordrim knows that while his staff and adventurers pack is ready, as it has been for some time now, he still has to find the most important key to his success, and his survival. He needs companions.

In the small vale that Mordrim calls home, adventuring companions are few and far between. Surrounded by the larger settlement of Saratoga to the North, and the City of Albany to the South, one would think that companions would be as easy to find as hungry halflings, but that is not the case. Mordrim has exhausted his network of contacts in Ballston Lake and now must set out in search of the people with whom he will entrust his success and most importantly his life.

Mordrim has sent a messenger to the Meetup.com guild in Saratoga. Rumor has it that a band of adventurers had gathered there to organize a campaign to adventure out, but that the group had never left the inn. Perhaps the addition of a wizard could persuade the group to take up the bedrolls and packs.

Through a trusted friend of Mordrim's he was able to get a request for brave souls drawn up by the land's most well known scribe, Craig List. Just this morning, a brave, or perhaps foolish soul, has answered the call and asked Mordrim if he could join the group. Mordrim basks in the glow of his first success but knows that it is only the first step on the winding and dangerous raod that lays before him.

In the coming days Mordrim will journey to a few small towns in the area and visit the libraries where people gather to read the prolific writings of the great sages such as Mearls, Slavicsek, and Wyatt. Here Mordrim will leave his post offering the opportunities for great adventure and treasure to anyone willing to accompany him. The greatest test that Mordrim has face to date is the test of patience that he has to endure while waiting for that prophesied day in which he will leave the vale of Ballston Lake and set forth into the world.

Until then, he will continue his studies and preparation.....

    Finding a Gaming Group

There are several things in life that can leave a person feeling more lost and alone then a dwarf who is allergic to ale. Divorce, losing a job, and *gasp* moving and having to find a new gaming group. Clearly losing your gaming group is the hardest of these setbacks to overcome.

I know I know, half of you reading this are shocked. How can he compare losing your job or the failure of your marriage to moving away from a gaming group? The answer is simple if you think about it.

How many dating websites are out there? There are probably more dating websites available on the web than hairs on a halfling's feet. It would take you days just to choose one and then you would have to have the intelligence of Raistlin to ever get past the screening tests and profile creation process. It may sound like I have experience with these sites, but I swear I have never joined one. I am on my second marriage so I don't need any help selling my soul to the dark queens.

If you lose your job, there are plenty of job sites as well. Even in these very tough times there are some jobs available. Maybe they don't pay as well, or aren't as glorious as the one that was taken from you but they are there. By the way, if you have lost your job, I feel your pain and just want to say "keep on keeping on". It will turn itself around for you if you really want it.

What happens when you lose your gaming group? You have to find a new one because gaming is a hard addiction to kick. Of course, why would you want to kick it? I don't know if there is some rule that I ignored that says that gaming groups need to act as if they are a secret society from a Dan Brown novel, or if groups that are out there just don't like to take a chance on a newbie, but there aren't hundreds of sites that help you find the perfect gaming group.

Imagine if there was a "D&DHarmony.com" or something like that. Create a profile, take a quick gamer personality test, and then get introduced to your long lost gaming soulmates. We could all do really cheesy commercials about how we had "given up on fun but then we found the one". Yeah, you're right...we have way too much self respect for something like that.

Seriously, if you want to find a group where do you go? What do you do? Let's face it, we spent way too much money on core rule books, camapaign guides, miniatures, power cards, lucky dice, and dungeon tiles to take out an ad in the paper. DAMN YOU WIZARDS OF THE COAST!!! Our solitude and unhappiness is greatly your fault. May your future releases flop as hard as the Dungeons and Dragons movies!! Just kidding. I have a tax return coming and am thinking about preodering PHB 12 with annotated footnotes.

The scary part is that the most succesful way to find a gaming group is...Craigslist. Anytime that you need to rely on craigslist to help restore a gaping whole in your soul is a sad, sad day. It's like realizing that the woman you love is secretly a "rules lawyer".

The bottom my line my friends, is that you can find another job, marry another drow priestess, but a fun gaming group is a gift from the heavens. Hold on to them for dear life, cherish them, and if you are cursed with having to move....make sure you steal their dice. It will keep you warm on those lonely nights.
