Warcon happened in Warrensburg this weekend. I missed Friday, which was huge, and went on to 3 o'clock. I did make it with the kids Saturday and Sunday though. The convention, born out of protest from KC Gamefair vendor practices, generated an unprecedented 126 unique visitors. Phil Thompson's shop was the location, with areas for large scale miniature gaming, a LAN network with large plasma screens, and other tables for incidental gaming. RPGA games were not in force here. Miniature games were however. Battletech, Warhammer, and more. I personally played Talisman, Munchkin, Bump in the Night, and Mwhahahaha! Further, he had his usually excellent paint-and-take. I painted a cool orc, a halfling wizard, and Phoebe painted a pink and copper knight (he's fabulous.) The grab bags where the best I've ever seen. Three comics (I got The Gunslinger and a Fallen Son comic, awesome) pack of cards (Owen got those constructible Star Wars game cards) and a map (Flooded Ruins, I don't have that one.) Door prizes were also excellent, I got a donated Twilight Creations Gravediggers game www.twilightcreationsinc.com/ and Owen got a T-shirt. A terrific event, everyone seemed very satisfied. A good time was had by all. Wizards should definitely think about donating their secondary, offshoot games to these events. I'm absolutely thinking about picking up Talisman now. It's a shame that no one is playing Innfighting, Three Dragon Ante, Great Dalmuti, or Guillotine and these sorts of events.

A very disappointing day. I went with son (my daughter usually goes, but she had an audition) to World Wide Game Day in Warrensburg, at Thompson Productions. If you don't know Thompson Productions, if you've been to a convention and seen a booth with a solid looking guy with a thick moustache, that's Phil and Thompson Productions is his shop. Great shop, terrible name, but a great shop. Extremely well organized, Phil's is a one-stop shop for D&D and he prides himself on his stock. The clerk was ready to run a game, but only my son and I showed up. Granted, we didn't preregister, I wasn't sure if we could manage it today. Sadly, no one else showed up. In the past, we sometimes had to wait half an hour for a player or two to show up, and games were often full. This year, nothing. Strangely, I feel responsible. I've organized at Phil's before. I used to run that Eberron campaign, but stopped when I couldn't plan two month ahead of time because they wouldn't release specific information on the adventures. I was frustrating, since I have to be able to plan early to make things work. Obviously, no one is organizing much there now. I used to run a monthly game day in Sedalia at Pair-a-Dice Lost when it was still open, and had moderate success. Given the WPN Delve format, there isn't a reason for me not to fit in three or less hours for something. If people did that all over Missouri, we would have something going. So I'm going to organize something, probably in the WPN Delve format, either locally in Clinton or in Warrensburg and posting about it here. I hope to serve as inspiration to others in Missouri, and the world. If an overworked, underpaid, teacher and father can organize, so can you! The Mighty Mid Missouri Gamer's Guild Guide
