I should have known better. I make a big move from a city where the only certified judge for several hundred clicks is myself and there's only one store to a city where there are two retailers and the largest concentration of judges (not to mention retailers) in the province is a ferry ride and an hours' drive away.

But is there any form of organized play in town? No, of course not--that would be too easy. Naturally, the nearest FNM location is still a good forty minutes away and the retailers are comics- and Warhammer-centric (respectfully) with only the barest smattering of Magic stuff.

I hate the state of Magic in Canada sometimes.

Anyone know how to build a player community from scratch when you're new in town?
