We understand that many players want Leagues to return. We do too! There are no new status updates on them at this time though. We will certainly let you know when we have more details to give on them. I can tell you that Gordon is putting together a new development update that will be posted soon. We will post it to the group blog when it is ready.

Thanks Mike, but I will pass. The last "update" wasn't an update at all, just double talk. You all have had more than enough time to put together a plan and implement a good portion of it by now. But to date it looks like to got as far as a stable server (to sell stuff on), an integrated ecom suite (to process our money), and of course, more ways to sell us stuff (OP). So congrats on your great casino, that's what you built. Enjoy it, I have stopped.

WotC_Mike, I am voting with my dollars as well. I have been a long time Magic Online user/customer. I have spent thousands over the years playing drafts and leagues. The long-awaited move to version III has been an incredible disappointment. I have stopped playing altogether since the move, due to the lack of leagues. I am interested in starting back, but only if they bring back leagues. Leagues offer a great way for casual players to be introduced to competitive play, and are great for people that don't want to dedicate hours at a time for a tournament. Also, leagues allow players to build card collections for constructed play, as drafts are time-intensive, but short-lived at the same time. Please bring back leagues, and you will be surprised how many dormant players will return.

i am not sure about everyone else but my clan has found a way to play league like games. and it isnt costing anything at all. the only thing we are lacking is a larger player base. the way we play does require some honesty from the people involved but it has been great fun. oh how i miss real leagues tho.

(Hi! Long time listener, first time poster). You know, as a long time player (I'm one of those ol' fart who's been playing since MTGO v1!), I have to say, I really miss leagues like everyone else. But, as much as I miss them, they did have some major flaws that need to be worked out before they bring them back. I remember back when, almost monthly, people would complain about “teams” who were manipulating the numbers and basically cheating the system. This really puts Wizards in a bind, because as much as we desire leagues, they can’t support a system that allows for blatant cheating and manipulation. I’m sure they know how much we love and support the idea of leagues, but without a method to assure that the cheating is brought to a minimum, I am willing to wait (but hopefully not TOO long). So... I think a good question for you to answer is, if you (WOTC) miss Leagues why havent they been put back up? What is the real issue? The community wants them, you say you want them... they bring in money... I see no dont sides, so as a business why arn't you (WOTC) bringing them back? If there is an issue beyond (WOTC) doesnt really care enough to do it yet, then we'd like to know it. Indepth updates conserning leagues show us that you are at least taking our view seriously... Just found this a min ago...
"Leagues: Leagues are currently in the 2011 plan." WOWZA really? 2 years huh? 2 more years till leagues are put back????? I'm dumbfounded by this "plan" you guys have. Why is it going to take 2 years to impliment something many players love, and would make MTGO better? If 2.5 could handle leagues, why cant 3.0? Did we all miss something here? Of course... I'm not sure if I'm more angry with the timeline, or the fact that I know my, and every other customers words on these boards are falling on deaf ears.

Oh man - that is sooo diappointing! I keep periodically checking in to MTGO to see if leagues are back. Looks like I may as well give up. I too would love to hear the real reason it's taking so long... it's hard to imagine it is so difficult to implement that it's going to take another 2 years! Nuts. Recruit an extra (competent) programming/design team and GET IT DONE!!

So it is a year after the last post. Any word or are we all still fooling ourselves? It seems Sony has made Magic The Gathering - Tactics from the ground up. Maybe we should ask them how they did it? All we want is a UI and some 4 week drafts FGS.

According to the fourth quarter status report, they're planning on working on leagues as soon as they finish up a couple of infrastructure projects. They've given it a name, Sandwich, but other than that ...

+1
I still refuse to play MTGO until leagues have returned.
