War is imminent as the Phyrexian plague engulfs the plane of Mirrodin, corrupting it from the inside out. In February, the war comes to Thursday Night Magic Online!

Beginning February 3, each TNMO time slot will have a Phyrexian Event and a Mirran Event, each with its own promo card – straight out of Mirrodin Besieged! You must make a stand, which side will you choose?

These awesome cards will be legal in all appropriate formats beginning Wednesday, February 16.

More Event Entry Updates!
After the downtime on January 26, most sealed deck and draft events will return with multiple ways to join. EDIT: Magic Online is live as of 9:10 AM PST.  Happy gaming!

Due to some issues with lag we have seen when players first navigate to the various play lobbies, we are scheduling an emergency downtime tomorrow at 8:00 AM PST (16:00 UTC). During this downtime we will deploy a new build that should take care of this issue.

Until this new build is deployed, players can minimize the inconvenience by staying the same play lobby (for instance, the 8-Player Draft room) as long as possible. Once any lag clears, they shouldn't experience significantly more lag until they navigate to a new lobby. We recommend players try to limit their navigation and re-logging to a bare minimum tonight.

The emergency downtime also means that all scheduled events after 1:00 AM PST (9:00 UTC) will be cancelled.

Event Entry Requirements Getting a Facelift!
We are pleased to announce that after we return from out downtime on January 19, Magic Online will support multiple entry options for the same event! While we are going to start slowly (when we go live, only the Urza’s Saga Block Draft Queue will support this change), over time we will be able to offer even more ways for players to join their favorite events.

Here’s how it works. Finding the tournaments will be the same, but the “Join” button will be replaced with an “Entry Options” button which will open the Entry Requirement Options box. Each option will have its own tab starting with the most common option. Just select the option you want and click “Join”!

For example, in the near

Premier Event Prize Structure Changes…Again
After running constructed Premier Events with the prize structure players voted on, it is clear that the change has not had the effect we were hoping for (increased fire rates for PEs). Standard format PEs fire rate dropped from 100% to 66%, while the other events remained at 0%. In response to this result, starting this weekend all constructed PEs will require a minimum of 33 players and use the following

UPDATE 1/1/2011:  As of 12:40 PM PST, web based New Account Creation for Magic Online is available.  Thank you for your patience.

We are currently experiencing some technical issues with the web based New Account Creation for Magic Online.  We do not currently have an ETA on when this issue will be resolved.

Only the web-based account creation is affected, however, so players can download the Magic Online program and create a new account by launching the program after the download is complete.   Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Have a safe and happy New Year!
