You're killing off Vanguard, even though it has been firing? And what are you basing your research on? Yes, less people have been playing Vangaurd tournaments. (1) Because YOU keep changing the times they start. If it had a regular start time, you might see more people get interested in them. (2) The past three months have been summer, so people have other things to do. I was away from school all summer. I come back to find out the ONE FORMAT I enjoy is being axed. Thanks. (3) The other reason people don't like to play this format is the broken avatars. How many times can players complain about Enigma Sphinx being broken before you do something about it? If you really "kept up" with the formats, you would be watching the results. When most, if not all, of the top 8 decks are using the same avatar and the same deck, you may have a balance issue on your hands.

This really falls on a failure of WOTC. It was YOUR decision to create rotating avatars. It was YOUR decision to not monitor the avatar abilities. It was YOUR decision for constantly changing the times the events fired. But to read your posting here, it seems to imply that you are blaming the players for not playing in the format. Show some responsibility.

P.S. How dare you axe Vangaurd and keep Kaleidoscope. That format is entirely stupid and enjoyed by very very very few people. Here's a quick lesson for your geniuses in development, don't create a format that uses cards that the store does not sell, ie Ravnica packs. Lack off access to the cards will actually decrease interest in the format.

P.P.S. Standardton sounds like a completely uninteresting format. We already have 60 card singleton and no one plays it. We have 100 singleton and Commander. We don't need another singleton format. Since Lorwyn is about to rotate, might I suggest bringing back Tribal Standard. Lorwyn killed that format, but hopefully now that it's gone, we can see it come back and be strong and fun like it used to be.

Sad to see Vanguard go, but hard to argue with. I didn't play a single game of the format after the Great Avatar Standardization. I think Standard-ton is a poor idea given its similarity to 100C Singleton. I've always advocated resurrecting Standard Tribal Wars since people love tribes, and you can come up with some funky decks like the Illusions one from Rav-TSP.

hi since MTGO is axing Vanguard - I would suggest doing something about the Kscope format. It's also dying. The past few weeks have not fired either. I think this is due to either 1 or 2 things:


(1) No one was playing Kaleidoscope before WotC introduced the format. Meaning that since there was no demand for the format, MTGO generated this format as a test run. Which is nice and all and I personally enjoy the format, but not enough people play in it and thus it never fires. As a note then, I would suggest that MTGO team pick a format where there is genuine interest before. 100 CS has been fairly successful because there was interest prior to the format in the form of highlander, 60card singleton, etc. I would try to shy away from randomly creating formats and seeing if they take off, instead look to formats that have been tried and proven for better success.



(2) The prizes. Ugh, getting classic packs is no good. Not everyone is playing to profit from the tournaments, but it DOES help to generate interest in the casual formats if the prizes were more relevant.. ME3 for example would be great or even M10 of course. Packs of Tempest/Str and Shado/Morn are not good prizes because it's so hard to utilize them, whether for sale or even drafting them...If the classic drafts fired I wouldn't mind having TTS, but it never does fire. Also this effects the interest because then, the 2-man never fire which doesn't create enough interest for people to even try the format out. If i was playing for a pack of tempest in a 2-man Kscope match, I wouldn't bother making a deck bc the packs sell for about 2 tix. There's not enough incentive to build/play and eventually enter the PEs with it.. of course, there are some (but very limtied number of people) who actually enjoy the different formats, but not enough to have a PE fire.



That being said, MTGO team is doing a good job of trying to stay abreast of what's going on. Kudos. I entered spaces between the paragraphs, but I think it just lumped it =(

My first association to the portmanteau word 'Standardton' is that it must be a 100 card format since 'a ton' is commonly understood to be 100 of something, e.g. doing the ton is driving at 100 miles per hour.

How about STINGLETON?

Not happy at all. Vanguard is my favorite format. And Vanguard has fired every week unlike Kaleidoscope (which is the other format I really enjoy). So logically, the first format to get the ax should have been Kaleidoscope. I guess kaleidoscope will follow, so I will soon be even more unhappy :(
