Duffy's "Alchemical" Dampening Field

Illusion (Glamer)Level: Sor/Wiz 1Components: V, SCasting Time: 1 standard actionRange: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)Area: 15-ft.-radius emanation centered on a creature, object, or point in spaceDuration: 1 min./level (D)Saving Throw: Will negates; see text or none (object)Spell Resistance: Yes; see text or no (object)

Upon the casting of this spell, sound is dampened in the affected area by approximately 50% making normal talking sound like whispering. All listen checks are made with a -15 penalty for sounds that originate in or pass through the dampened area. Conversation within the field is possible, but in a danger zone the speaker must make a Wisdom check (or Bluff) to speak loudly enough to be heard ONLY by the intended listeners (DC 10 to 20 depending on situation). Spells with verbal components that are cast within the field suffer a 10% chance of failure. This spell is intended to boost Move Silently checks for heavily-armored and non-dextrous party members.

The spell can be cast on a point in space, but the effect is stationary unless cast on a mobile object. The spell can be centered on a creature, and the effect then radiates from the creature and moves as it moves. An unwilling creature can attempt a Will save to negate the spell and can use spell resistance, if any. Items in a creature's possession or magic items that emit sound receive the benefits of saves and spell resistance, but unattended objects and points in space do not. This spell provides a +2 circumstance bonus against sonic or language-based attacks, such as command, a harpy's captivating song, a horn of blasting, and the like.
