After leveling as well as buying and selling items in the town of Mulmaster, you decided to make your way down to Maskyr’s Eye to seek out the Harper contacts your found there. It is snowing as you head for the gate and the open road. Traveling by foot down the North Road becomes difficult as the snow strengthens and the winds start blowing stronger. A couple of inches of snow on the ground has turned into a full blown winter storm and after 4 hours of travel, Thomas casts an Endure Elements spell to protect the group from the bitter cold. Your rate of travel has slowed as the snow accumulates and your vision has been decreased to less than 50 feet. As you travel you realize you are lost and not on the road. With limited views, you cannot identify the mountains to your east to get any bearings of how to get back on track.
As you keep moving you come upon some tracks in the snow. Large bipedal tracks with some pawed tracks mixed in. You estimate these tracks could not be more than 15 minutes old based on the blowing snow not covering them yet. These tracks definitely made by giant sized creatures leads you to follow with interest. Short range view is further hampered by a slightly denser wooded area you entered. You can still easily move here, except for the snow, as you make your way along the tracks through the wind. You spot a large 4 legged creature ahead through the snow and trees. Identifying it as a large sized Winter Wolf, these could match the tracks you are following. Duffy casts a spell attacking the will of the wolf which draws in 2 more wolves for a battle. As a 4th wolf comes into view and attacks, arrows fly in from beyond your range of view. Huge sized arrows and numerous flights continue as 2 Forest Giants move closer for you to see. Stryfe is in a rage and bringing blood from the wolves to cover the snowy ground. As the Giants enter melee, 2 more Forest giants move up letting arrows fly.
As wolves fall and Giants swing, Avveron appears and lets loose his own arrows as Duffy continues to try to use his magic against these foes, but lucky rolls from the DM make save after save against the mighty Gnome’s spells. As Giants start to fall, the battle grows more bloody with Thomas trying to move up to heal as Sharky, Stryfe and Raven deal and take blows. The last shots from one giant fells Stryfe, Thomas reaching what he thought would be too late, cast healing upon Stryfe to bring him back from the brink seconds after he fell. The last remaining giant disappears into the snowy cloud and the battle ends.
Finding your direction, you make for the mountains to the east seeking shelter to rest the coming night. The last few hours of daylight allow you time to reach the rocky base of the mountain range to your east. The winter storm still raging has hidden you as well as hidden your path with little time to find a resting place. As you move towards the south along the stone walls you come upon a 30’ diameter opening if the rock face with fresh tracks leading into this cave. Deciding that they are made by a huge size dragon or drake, you move further south only to pass an overhang that would provide some shelter from the elements to come along to a vast drop off of a valley where water has carved a gorge. Doubling back to the out cropping, you rest the night without event.
You awake to a brisk but sunny blue sky morning. The snow has ended and you set off in search of the road that will take you to Maskyr’s Eye once again. Many hours into your journey, a wagon far ahead bring pulled by oxen is visible. Moving to meet it half way you call out as it approaches. A human and his companion ride atop the wooden boxed cart greeting you with a smile. His name is Pertwy and clams to have come from Maskyr’s Eye this very day. He is transporting 2 criminals to Mulmaster carried within his wagon. He also shares a little information with you about recent attacks that have befallen Maskyr’s Eye by giants. Several building have burned to the ground and lives have been lost during a multi day giant attack. The town has stood tall and survives with a few bruises to show for it. With daylight starting to fade in the short winter days, you offer to rest the night sharing a campsite if Pertwy would allow. He does and you make camp and rest the night.
