Just to fill in the missing gaps, here's our part of the story. We wait about 24 hours in the House of Alureon, and leave long before the break of dawn. After a half-hour of traveling, we come to the observatory hill. It's surrounded by a large supernatural bank of fog, but we plunge in following a set of wagon tracks.
About halfway through we come to a gate, which animates and raises an alarm. That draws the attention of a gaggle of quick skeletons, who attack. Mongo is in heroic form, and destroys several with sweeping cleaves.
The wagon tracks curve around towards a ramp up the hill. We're suddenly dive-bombed by some demonic insectoid abberation, which injects Strife with its hellish larval offspring. Basically Stryfe's flank fills up with pus and churning blood until it explodes in a shower of maggots. Cor, where does George come up with this stuff? Please, lay off the Rifts sourcebooks...
The ramp leads to a landing in front of the observatory door. The landing has a trapdoor, which we open to find some furry creature that we quickly decimate. We open the door and enter the vestibule.
Standing in the vestibule is a trio of animated skeletons, which do NOT immediately attack. Using skill checks in Charades (cha), we discover that they are members of the Land family, who, like Alister, wish to be returned to their graves. We continue into the observatory.
We come to a banquet hall. We find a putrid feast attended by a host of rotting zombies. Stryfe discovers that they are programmed only to praise and honor old Filge when he comes to sit at the head of the table. What hollow pursuits! What vanity! What a f***ed up wizard we hunt!
Avveron decides that the action is here on the first floor, so he does some snooping around in the kitchen and disappears. (I think he's looking for a hearth to turn into a doomsday bomb...) Convinced that Filge is very close by, the majority of us ignore all distractions and scamper up the staircase. We do a little buffing, and finally come to the top level under the dome. We find the evil Necromancer waiting for us, with a Phalanx of medium- and large-size skeletons to do his bidding.
The climactic battle was, let's say, "messy." Avveron was gone until the end, and the evil wizard nimbly avoids the tip of our spear: Mongo. Our half-orgre friend, flush with confidence, is suddenly nearly hacked down by the combined attacks of the antagonists. Mongo retreats, and the wizard snipes at us in the staircase with some powerful beam attacks. Finally, the undead are put down, and the largest minotaur-shaped skeleton disappears in a puff of smoke and DM logic. That big guy must have been an illusion, and we disbelieved it. As soon as the path is cleared, we stack up around the wizard and instantly grind him to necro-dust.
There is lots of treasure from our climax, so we stuff our pockets. We find the remains of the fifth and final member of the Land family, and finish for the night. Thank you.
