This is an idea I've had banging around my head for a while (since the Light Fantastic made its second appearance) and I thought I'd share.
The basic idea is an LoC where we specifically play old characters of ours. New characters would still be permitted, of course, but it would sort of be a mashup of old LoCs. For example, perhaps I'd play my first god, Gadabout, again, while Toph might play everybody's favorite god composed of the souls of the dead, Itja-Rek. We thus might see a return of the WanderWay and the Reaper, respectively. But how would these two gods interact? Who knows? Thus, even while there would be some rehashing of old things, new interactions would result in different outcomes.
On top of this, we'd be able to play more than one god at a time (with the slight caveat that our gods should be ipso facto friends).
One of the reasons that I call this "hardtype," however, is that ideally we'd have a greater emphasis on actual D&D world building. Before things even get going we might talk about what sort of world we want (eberron-esq, dying world, aberrant world, etc), the progression of development (getting everyone working on crafting geography, or empires, or etc, at the same time), things that the world is lacking, etc.
Thoughts?

Oh! It's a shame this thread has gone unnoticed for so long, I would have posted sooner had I checked the group. But I just wanted to say, I am very much in the agreeing-camp with this idea. I think this would be really cool, and I would love to give it a try, personally. Further, I am totally in support of the "hardtype" thing. For reasons already mentioned, of course.
In conclusion, thumbs-up for this!

I am glad.
To note, I noticed a mistake in my original post. I think that if we play multiple gods, they should NOT be ipso facto friends.

Yeah, I don't see Nixis and Itja-Rek being pals. Each one of these games has had a different feel. It will be interesting to see what the meta-game will be like

Two things: Do you think we should maybe post a link to this thread in the OOC? I don't think people are really checking the group anymore, what with it being dormant since, well, before this game started. Also, I am personally very much excited about this idea, but obviously we can't go too full-force with it yet and take steam away from the regular LoC. That said, did you just sort of throw this idea out there, or did you want to start working out some of these "hard-typed" things some time soon? Think of this also as a sort of bump. I don't want this idea to get swallowed by the boards and/or forgotten.

Linking to the OOC thread might be a good idea. I figured that once GoE was winding down, people might start checking this group more often and as such start having some input.
As for what to do now, I guess really the first step might be active recruitment. Trying to figure out who wants to world-build (and not just, or not even, RP) and trying to get them attached to the idea. This requires going through people who have played LoC before and trying to figure out the worldbuilders among us. I guess we could even have applications (post a blurb about a world you've designed, or at least started designing before), just to try to drive home that this is about world building.
The next step would then be to determine "flavor" of the setting, but that seems like something we'd want to have everyone around for input.

Honestly, Thought, I like the idea of applications or at least sorting through the list for proven worldbuilders. I'm asking people their favorite LoC memories to get a feeling of things we should be sure to add Speaking of that... Ara, you're late!

Lets see, of people who I know have engaged in indepent world building of some sort:
Thought Sinasilver Shadow SpaceDragon/EyesOfArgus MostlyGhostly
Now to note, this is just people who I have actually seen world-building materials from and that I can remember. This doesn't include people I suspect do build stuff but that I haven't actually seen (Topheh, for example, I don't think I've actually seen anything from you, but I certainly think you'd qualify. But since I don't know for sure, that is why I didn't put you on the list).
Anywho, point being, does anyone have names to add of known world-builders? It doesn't have to be people who have played LoC before either: if you know someone who likes world building and who we might be able to talk into playing, let us know of them and we can at least try to recruit.
Once we have a bit of a list, we can start a new thread, a sort of Roll Call where we introduce ourselves as world builders (say the parts of worldbuilding we like, we hate, and give a very brief overview of some of our past work).
EDIT: To stress the point, I am not even including people who have added wonderfully to LoC in the past if I hadn't actually seen some world-building work outside of the IC portion of the game.
