OK, so I've been accepted as a D&D Next Playtester and I've downloaded the pack.
4th Ed never really clicked with me or my group, despite my best efforts. 3.5 was as good as D&D got, as far as we were concerned, but we persisted.
Why didn't it work?
In our opinion, it was too simplistic, too "computer game-y", if you get my meaning. Somethings reset after a 'short rest', everything reset after a 'long rest'. you could almost see the sleep status bar over your head.
In addition, the classes were all too similar. There were just a few builds and everyone has their at-will, encounter and daily powers that, with some minor exceptions, pretty much did the same thing.
In the end, it was all too cookie-cutter for us.
I'll take a look at the pack over the weekend and maybe try and get my tabletop group to try the sample adventure on Tuesday...
Here's hoping!
Jason
