That one WOTC sales representative, trying to sell some books, is making incorrect statements about legal character options for LFR is unfortunate, but not particularly meaningful.
And to further support other comments, I'd be surprised if it were WotC speaking with a FLGS owner -- WotC sells to distributors, who in turn sell to game stores.
I'm thinking it's the distributor here trying to push product and talking about something he has no knowledge of -- which isn't unusual for (bad) sales reps.

Fortunately, per the thread title, BoVD is legal for FLR. Those of us playing LFR have nothing to fear.

Please don't shoot the messenger, I'm only reporting what I heard myself and was asking for the issue to be cleared up.
It seems that Skerrit has celared it up and I'll point my FLGS owner to this thread to reply to Wizards Pacific about his lack of order for the book.

I can say with absolute certainty that WotC is not pushing retailers to purchase Book of Vile Darkness. In fact, the only specialty exclusive we retailers have is Mordenkainen's. Wizards doesn't push product on us at all; they're actually one of the best companies that I work with in my store. Whether I call them or one of the other various distributors, the product information on WotC stuff has always been incredibly acurate and retailer-friendly. As has been said, BoVD is not player legal for LFR, but it is quite definitely DM legal. Good times! If you're checking for LFR resources, check the livingforgottenrealms.com website and associated documents first. The WotC help desk isn't 100% up to snuff when dealing with Living Forgotten Realms now that the campaign is user-driven, not company-driven.

Their ordering system is min $5000.00 order with items in bundle amounts. This isnt a sales rep, its Wizards Asia Pacific ie Wizards directly. There is no middle man or distributor.

I have absolutely no desire to see LFR make BoVD legal for player use.
However, as someone who rarely buys physical books, since I rely on Compendium and OCB for most needs, this is one I intend to pick up ASAP. Should have some great fluff for my home games.

May be that just like reading the Cyrinishad misled you to believe that Cyric was a god, reading the Book of Vile Darkness mislead you to believe its all LFR Legal.

I've heard that the mere mention of it's evil name will render a Dragon article unusable.

Is FLR that campaign that allows Warforged?
