What's the (current) expected adventure duration for an Excursions program submission?

I can read your question a couple of ways:

If you asking how long  from when the  submission period closes to when the authors should know if their proposal is accepted for developement, my goal for that is no later than Dec 3rd.

If  I am not using your submission, you should know by Dec. 3rd.
It is possible that I might get more really goood submissions than openings for the first group. I will deal with that on a case by case situation.

The adventures should be designed to be played in the traditional 3 1/2 to 4 hour time slot.

Hopefully there was an answer to your questino in there somewhere. Smile

The last one was the answer needed. At one point, Excursions was mentioned as half-slot duration, so I figured I should ask before putting something together.

I thin you may be getting the Excursions mixed up with the INTROs, which are also still coming. I believe that Shawn Merwin is either at work or just finishing the first one of those.

That could be true. At least there was /something/ that was mentioned as half-slot durations.

Glad to see this moving forward!

Claire - is there any sort of call for authors or development at the moment?  I don't see any threads to that effect.

Very much looking forward to using this for one-shots in my store.

I just edited the first post to direct people to the blog for Excursions Program details, but the answer to your question is yes.  I will be accepting submissions for the first group of adventures from 16 Nov through the 26th.

I received the Adventure Proposal Template and have a couple questions:

First, are these adventure supposed to be designed with a specific tier in mind (H1, H2 or H3) or are they to be designed under the new APL format?

Second, are we allowed to submit multiple proposals if we have more than one adventure idea?

Third, is there any rule about submitting a proposal for an andventure we've previously run as a MYRE?

Thanks!
Flag Claire November 3, 2011 12:27 PM PDT
The adventures are to use the new AL format.

I would rather you just send one.  You should focus on presenting one good proposal not splitting your time between  different proposals. I suggest you pick the idea that you are the most excited about or that you believe players will find fun and work on that one.

There is not a rule against basing your proposal on a MYRE, as of yet.  I am concerned about how easily someone will accept criticism, or directions to change something that they felt was well received when they ran the adventure.
Flag crimsonsky November 5, 2011 10:36 AM PDT
Another question about the template.

The Adventure Summary section states to summarize the adventure in 1,000 words or less.  How absolute is that limit.

A hard limit:  Taking a word count in Word and discarding a proposal if there's a 1,001 words in the Adventure Summary.

A soft limit:  Going a bit over is ok, but if it's pages upon pages of text then it's not getting looking.

I'm asking because my summary is currently at 1,003 words.  I could probably reword things to reduce a few words, but wanted to know how much to stress over it.
Flag Claire November 5, 2011 11:23 AM PDT

Consider it a soft limit. I won’t kick a proposal for being a few words over. Cool

Flag Claire November 16, 2011 4:33 PM PST

Just a reminder that the period for actual sending in adventure proposals has begun! Smile

Does this mean the "CORE region" is dead, and any pitches that would have been for a CORE module should now be for an excursion?

No the Excursion program is for new authors.

Flag Skerrit November 18, 2011 5:43 AM PST
And note that a CORE was released roughly 3 weeks ago.

Any feedback yet on the submissions?  How was the response - how many proposals were submitted?  Will you contact everyone who submitted, or just the people whose proposals are accepted?

Thanks.

I apparently was a tad optimistic. Foot in MouthI am a bit over 3/4ths done with all of the reviews and should have the rest completed on Tuesday.

Huzzah for communication!

Flag Claire December 7, 2011 2:40 PM PST

Everyone who sent in a proposal should have received edits and feedback from me.

Someone asked if I would be announcing who “won.” I am not going to do that.  First time authors do not need the added pressure of public expectations / questions.

Flag Foxworthy June 16, 2012 3:55 AM PDT
Did any of these ever get released?

One is at GenCon another is still in developement.

Is the GenCon drow adventure due to be released for Private play?

....and is the rest of this program dead?

Flag Skerrit September 2, 2012 10:05 AM PDT
The two Gen Con cores have been released for Private Play. (www.livingforgottenrealms.com/#gencon201...)

I believe that Claire is still working on some of the Excursions, and as always they see life as some of the cores we have and will put out. We still have many adventurers to put out!

The 2-hour GenCon drow adventure (West Wall/Dawn of Night) was not an LFR adventure, and I don't think there were plans to release it for private play. Unless that wasn't whatthou were asking about.

Flag Claire September 2, 2012 12:34 PM PDT
The program is not dead.
The 2 hour GenCon drow adventure was not developed by the LFR campaign.

I am working on the parameters  for the next Excursions author call.  Hopefully I'll have something worked out within a month.

Not arguing with you here, but I heard from several sources that the non-DDN 2 hour adventure was LFR. Never had the time to actually go play it and confirm that. Too busy running LFR.

It might be a good idea to get the story straight with WotC before the next con.

Any chance of it being released as an ADAP?

Not sure who told you it was, but the drow adventure was definately not for LFR and never was (nor was it advertised that it was anywhere that I know of). Its a Classic with provided characters who are evil and as part of the game want to murder each other. I don't see it being adapted for LFR.

Your sources are mistaken. The 2-hour adventure that ran at GenCon and PAX Prime this year ("The Dawn of Night" which ran in the "West Wall" room) was a preview adventure for the D&D Encounters season that just started last week ("The Council of Spiders"). The adventure used pre-generated characters only (all drow) and featured a high likelihood of the PCs killing one another before the end of the adventure--which is not very LFR-like at all. Players who took part in the adventure could earn rewards that they could apply to their D&D Encounters character for this season. Since it has nothing to do with LFR, and the whole story hinges on the backstories of the pre-generated characters, I would guess the likelihood of it being released for LFR is somewhere between zero and none.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Edit: Sorry Greg had to be the bearer of bad news.

Flag pruano February 21, 2013 5:02 AM PST
What were the results from the first round (just curious)?
Flag Claire February 21, 2013 1:42 PM PST

Of the ten people who indicated interest I received 9 actual proposals.

Three were offered the chance to develop their adventures. Unfortunately only one of the three adventures actually ended up being published for various real life reasons.

Three of the other  prospective authors were recommended to Writing Directors as candidates for projects. Two collaborated on one adventure and another took over for an author who could not complete an adventure due to real life issues.

So while the campaign only gained one adventure out of the program, four authors gained experience.

Hopefully we can do a bit better this year.Smile

Thks for the analysis.

Ya, for a first try i think we can definately consider it a sucess (moderate, but a success anyway).

Lets hope for even better results this time around.
