This thread is to capture Q&A and feedback on the LFR adventure, Stage Misdirection, WATE2-4, set in Waterdeep.  Please use spoilers if you reveal specific information from the adventure.  The Writing Director (or perhaps author) will respond to any questions, and does appreciate the feedback.  The adventure is low level, and designed to be a fun, role playing adventure in an urban setting.  I want to thank Erik Scott de Bie for his creative assistance in designing the premise and plot proposal as well as the loan of one of his major characters.  You may chat with Erik over on the FR forums or at the community WotC book club.  Erik was one of the co-authors of the new Neverwinter Campaign Setting Guide.

Is there any chance this could be folded into the general Adventure feedback thread?

Considering none of the new other story areas got a new subforum I tend to consider these sub forums legacy and I think a lot of other people do too.  While I like the organized way waterdeep is set up as its own place within these forums I fear it would lead to either isolation or harder to find threads.

Another option would be to split off all the other adventure areas into subs.. but consistancy would be nice.

Well or that could just be me.

I had a great time with this adventure, as I do with all Waterdeep adventures. The only problem is that we may have had too much fun:

Spoiler: Show

We spent too much time talking to people at the theater, and it meant we were short on time for things that were more relevant to the adventure. The DM did a good job of not railroading us, so we were free to role play to the detriment of module completion.

I dunno how to fix that, or even if it should be fixed. I'd heard mixed reviews about this module from some people with whom this one didn't click, but it really worked for this particular public game night party.
I killed Aleena.

I ran this for a group of players this past weekend. Everyone enjoyed the adventure.

Spoiler: Show
The NPCs that the PCs interacted with were very well fleshed out. Unlike earlier Waterdeep adventures where players felt that they were following a trail of breadcrumb NPCs with little to offer beyond pointing towards the next NPC to talk to, each NPC had valuable information to add to the story (well beyond "talk to this person next"). This style was well-received and noted as a strength of the adventure. With individual descriptions, goals, and personalities, each NPC was able to add meaningfully to the immersion and entertainment value without "being in the way" of the story progressing. Very well organized so that players who want to interact and roleplay can do so for as long as they like, and those players who prefer to skip over those bits can get to the action fairly directly.

The first encounter was engaging, though the crowd mechanics were a bit clunky. (Many of the "attacks" for the crowd didn't do much.) Starting off the adventure with a combat settled everyone in for the extensive roleplay to follow, and I used all 4 different character hooks which was a very welcome change of pace from the usual start to LFR adventures.

At high tier, the halfling's stat block in the second combat is off. (I'd guess by 3-4 levels; defenses are nowhere near the other Level 5 creatures in the encounter.) The RP with the noble at the end was an excellent scene. Really enjoyed playing this out, as the players were expecting a possible third combat and so stayed on their toes.

Overall, a WATE2-4 had a strong showing. It includes the role-play heavy experience expected from WATE adventures, without the drudgery that some of the others have suffered from.
