I don't think non-admins can start meta-org, though you can officially start the Adventuring Company "Knights of Cormyr."

I thought Adventuring Companies were limited to non-WotC organizations?

From the draft MetaOrg document (sorry for the weird formatting):
Call it what you want, but watch your use of existing organizations. You can call your adventuring company a clan, a guild, a tribe, a family, a team, a sect, or whatever you like, but you cannot create an adventuring company that identifies itself as an existing organization in the FORGOTTEN REALMS. For example, you cannot call your adventuring company the Flaming Fists, since that organization already exists in and around Baldur’s Gate. However, you could call them Burning Justice and make their background up as a small team of righteous (lawful good requirement) adventurers that have joined the Flaming Fists (affiliation with Flaming Fists requirement) to bring order to Baldur’s Gate and the lands beyond. Consult the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide and Forgotten Realms Player’s Guide for information on past and present organizations in the Realms.
So you could make an adventuring company with a requirement that you had to be a Knight of Cormyr, but you'd have to name it the "Defenders of Cormyr" or something else - you couldn't actually call the AdCo the "Knights of Cormyr" since that's an existing organization (at least, I'm assuming the knights of a kingdom would be considered an organization).

Depends - I believe the official title is "Purple Dragon Knights."
I agree that "Defenders of Cormyr" is probably a safer name, though.

You now officially fail at life.
Considering that my PC was more than likely the ONLY Purple Dragon Knight (by Paragon Path) in LFR existance, Knights of Cormyr sounds much better as an official meta-org.

Hate to disabuse you of this, but I've played with one, so not quite as unique as you think.

Purple Dragon Knight is actually a pretty darned good paragon path. So I wouldn't be surprised if there are more of them floating around than you think. It's a bit annoying that one of its attack powers uses Str and the other uses Cha, but there are ways around that.
Now, the Purple Dragon Commander's Ring? Yeah, that's pretty bad. (But flavorful.)

Are meta-organizations officially in effect now? The effective date is listed as June 1, but it's still a draft document.
I noticed that the Knights of Myth Drannor citizenship benefit is a bit unclear. Does it mean that a PC can (or must) change backgrounds? Since the introduction only discusses citizenship as a requirement, I think it would make sense to move Myth Drannor citizenship to the requirements section of the meta-organization.
Also, it's a minor issue, but it would be good for the PDF table of contents to be fixed in the final version of the document. Currently, it looks like there is a table of contents entry for each paragraph.
