Dear LFR
I write to complain about ELTU-4-1, Born by Fiends.
The prime point is that it is not a formula mod. Now granted, we want a few non-formula modules just to keep the players on their toes. But a formula is there because it has proven superior. The non-formula mod needs to show it makes up for its non-formula nature, not be deemed in any way praiseworthy for being different.
Here, ELTU 4-1 is not only different, it is poorly done. Not only do we get only two battles instead of three [& D&D is a battle game. Giving us less of it is just cheating us.] both are flawed by being too hard or too easy. Arguably the first encounter is both. Either the party is TPKed or quickly targets the jewelry and wins fairly easily. There is just too little middle ground.
A consistent flaw is expecting the PCs to do what they should not be doing. There is no good reason to bust the thief out of jail. Nor is there much reason to trust the quisit in the battle, nor to trust it enough to reject the idea of a short rest, particularly when the party may have been severely damaged in the previous battle.
The story is not without virtues, but it needs a complete re-write.
I'm not sure where to put this, but I think there should be some type of DM reward system , something akin to ashes of athas, so that when we DMs actually do get a chance to play (once in a blue moon) we aren't stuck rolling a fresh character or back at level 1...
The City of Ravensbluff sourcebook is situated shortly after The Year of the Tankard (1370 DR).
I expect the 'end' of the LC campaign was a few years later. I don't know if lady Mayor Thoden's fall was chronicled in the campaign. It got dealt with in The City of Ravens novel, but I don't know what the year of that novel (DR) is.
geibelb,
I am not sure I understand your question. Do you mean...the year in the Realms (typically expressed in DR...), and there could be more than one way to interpret when Living City (a campaign) Ravens Bluff (a city in the Realms) was killed. Could you put it in the LFR forum for general questions? From the point of view of WotC, since none of what Organized Play, LLC (Ryan Dancey) did was published by WotC, it never happened. Ravens Bluff was much as when Ed Greenwood wrote the setting (around 1998, I am not at home at the moment). Keith
I'm looking for the history/time period specifically for Ravens Bluff corresponding to when Living City Ravens Bluff was killed. Anybody know where I can find that information?
@Phantasmavore Not many people read or respond to the comments here. You would be better off posing your question in the Living Forgotten Realms General forum.
