Session 1: The game kicks off with the southern wall of Loudwater being blown up, a stream of goblins rushing through the wreckage in search of âThe Horn Totemâ which they have been told resides in Loudwater in a shop called âGarawanâs Curiosities.â
Using some tiles from âStreets of Shadowsâ and extending the battle field with the Paizo market place battle sheet; the PCâs were placed by myself according to a question I had asked them pre-game âUpon arriving in a new town, where would you visit first,â 2 of my 4 players said âThe Pub.â
Loudwater is a pretty run down town the market place is largely empty and the once busy market stalls are now abandoned. So very few civilians are out on the streets, those that are the PCâs protect and send them to fetch the town guard. Naturally the guards show after the fight has ended
.
The combat went pretty smooth and there were a few exciting and funny moments; Alain the shifter rouge (player Ali,) used handspring assault on the Goblin Hexer then with the shift movement flipped up onto the top of the town fountain. In revenge the Hexer cursed Alain, and when it came round to Alainâs next go he thought , not knowing the effect s of the curse which had not damaged him yet, that a jumping attack from the fountain would be lethal. As soon as he took to the air his chest tightened and chest tightened *SPLASH* he falls straight into the fountains taking 3d6+ damage.
The goblins managed to claim the Horn Totem by breaking into the shop and then started to flee town. Babzâ warden managed to punish most of the goblin minions that fled from his attention with AoO, the one goblin that hot away and actually managed to get back beyond the town walls was then skewered by his âStone Spikesâ at-will.
The PCâs learned the motives of the goblins by finding a note on the Goblin Hexer from High Shaman Sancossug, and by interrogating a goblin they took a live learned some more useful information they would not have other wise received.
Finally when all the battle was won the towns guard showed up congratulating the PCâs and acting is they had done no fault themselves, the PCâs gave them a hard time demanding a reward for doing there work for them. The guards arranged a bed and meal for the PCâs at the watch building for the night, and an audience with the head of town Lady Moonfire in the morning.
The PCâs took the offer and used the time to get to know one another better. There was a pretty comical scene of them introducing themselves to one another, âGarel-Kai, Alain, Derek badgerâ the names get worse as they go on and Babzâ Goliath Warden who goes only by the name of âGoliathâ introduces himself in a total monotone voice.Â
Garel-Kai (Robâs Genasi Sword-mage) is actually part of a pirate crew coming to town on business with a dwarf named Zark, being told by his mentor and captain of the âSinking Saviourâ that Zark has work form him and any strong arms he can lend. Naturally Robs invites the other PCâs to help.
At the Docks they begin to load barrels into Zarkâs boat, Kevâs Dwarven Cleric Derek mages to shuffle a box on despite the boxes being his own height. The other follow suite, then it comes to the big hulking Goliath and he put outs his back dropping one of the barrels. The barrel bursts open to reveal a bound and gag child. Zark instantly flees shouting to the crew of Robâs former ship mates the âjig is up!â
Ropes are thrown from the ship onto the dockside and using âRigging monkeyâ a dozen pirate thugs climb down onto the docks to fight the PCâs with Leucis (Tiefling Rogue NPC) the captain of the ship taking up the lead. But before the PCâs engaged them they manage to catch up to and take Zark to the ground.
Another fun combat that eventually seeâs a one on one duel between Garel-Kai and former mentor Leucis. Leucis taunts Garel-Kai insulting his naivety saying he has been helping with business deals like this since he joined the crew, he just wasnât aware. Leucis hits hard with an attack setting himself up for a Riposte, Garel-Kai is taken down to one hit point and burst into flames switching to fire manifestation. With no means of healing himself he lets loose his fire cyclone style encounter power but not before Leucis makes his riposte strike which luckily misses and Garel-Kai brings him down with a solid hit.
Another scene of questionable interrogation follows and the PCâs learn of the Zelbross bandits that Zark was intending to take the child captives too, and also the Lady of Shadows criminal figure in town who was competing with Zark in the business and also holding the town under fear, using a protections racket.
Once again the guard show up late, and they imprison Leucis but not without having there competence questioned first.
