My favorite NPCs to roleplay are the wise but dumb guys. The "Mongo is just pawn in game of life" type of character. The have the answers to the partys problems, but no one takes them seriously. They usually start as villians and turn into true friends, before usually suffering a heroic but tragic end.

I am liking how these are shaping up. This is much more similar to the theme I had mentioned when I read John's article, that of loss of identity. I had included the wraith in that originally but these are more of less the parameters I had in mind when I spoke of ghosts and spectres. Useable possessions rules rule! I was very excited to hear in this article and see in the new playtest some kind of possession rules. I feel like that it one of the few ways to really unnerve players!

IMO : The most important is the rules, definely, but I just LOVE the drawings.... you may put a whole book just of them for me... LOL ... seriously, I love them... and DRAGONS.

if i can't read it, then i look at the pretty pictures then toss it aside. i need hard usable data to add to my game. fluff should only be used to augment a product, not overwhelm it. case in point the atlas of dragonlance, pretty, but useless.
