I think that if it becomes an option, however viable, some people are not going to do it and then the party can't sneak into a enemy castle.
I mean, people are not going spend extra resources to play in different ways when they can synergize a single thing. That's why sneaking just needs to be an option for everyone as a default.

I totally agree that in today's market, the average gamer is more likely to want something that has sweeping vistas, over the top action and big booms. It's all around us, it's in our movies, books and video games and so it should be in our RPG's too.
But I don't agree that 4e tried to squash this style of play. "High Fantasy" has nothing to do with the system you're using. Instead it's all about the story you're telling. And 4e allows for High Fantasy just fine. I believe that 4e better...

And 4e allows for High Fantasy just fine. I believe that 4e better depicts a level of "high action" then 3e with both explosive spell casters AND martial heroes that can leap hundreds of feat and tackle Titans.

Heck, you want to talk about high fantasy - my party in 4e once planted explosives around the base of a castle to dislodge it from the ground before flying in on the four airships they stole from the city's ruler to literally pull the castle out of the ground, along with the shell of a dead god that the castle had been built on. All while fending off an attack from a dragon-riding Warforged, a small army of siege weaponry and a mad Raksasha wizard. This act destroyed the city, and fulfilled a portion of a world ending prophecy. It really doesn't get more "High Fantasy" than that.

Oh yeah. 4e isn't anemic, nor can it only be played one way. Give it a try, it'll astound you. :D

Instead what I believe you're getting at here is that you'd like to see the return of super-powered spell casters. It's something that a lot of people seem to want for some reason. But what you're talking about is something completely different from High Fantasy. In your system the above could happen simply by a single character wanting it to happen. There would be less sense of urgency, less sense of danger, and less STOLEN AIRSHIPS for crying out loud! That's not injecting elements of High Fantasy into the game, it's just giving spell casters a suite of "I win" buttons. Then you suggest that it's not all that bad because the DM can just c*ck block the caster to make it fair. "Just make the castle immune to being teleported out of the ground! That'll stop the caster from breaking the encounter!" Then what was the point of having a "Pull Castle out of ground" spell in the first place? That's not a good way to go about things. I love having those type of situations in a game and having over the top things be accessible to the party, but I would rather the party achieve them through imagination, determination and a little luck instead of achieving them simply because the Wizard hit level 13.
