Honest. I don't seem able to fudge dice rolls. If i miss with the juicey stuff I say I missed. If I hit with everything 3 rounds running then I roll that damage. No I don't play poker for money; ever.
rude use of a sword of protection any ... it never lets the user put it down. never leaves the hand once picked up. Always blocks attacks comming at weilder. uses 1/2 of total attacks per round. rounded down never used to attack. stops weilders arm when the weilder tries to attack. increases AC even when weilder is sleeping is usually rusty and dull, will never keep an edge. Sword of Protection 1 - 5

I've used Gary's concepts as the basis for my campaigns. While I can see good tweaks, the basic system has worked surprisingly well. I also like the idea that a Wish spell is granted by the closest power, which was great fun for me as DM. I put that to good use when a demigod like Zagyg is granting their wish... And, of course, never cast an Augury when in the Bandit Kingdoms, since it is answered by an agent of Iuz!
I like the prehensile tail - I use something like that (in my games Kobolds are deamonlings). I don't like the connection to dragons - I don't like the weakest creatures to be tied to the most powerful in some contrived family bond. To be clear, I have nothing against Kobolds. In fact, some of my best monsters are Kobolds! I believe Draconians (Dragon Lance) cover the humanoid-dragon niche quite well. Anyway, you forgot to post the picture of a Kobold from 2e - you know, the one with...

For me Goblins should be like the ones depicted as in the Magic the Gathering universe. For the little ones, The Goblin Marauder, Goblin War Strike or Goblin Psychopath by Pete Venters, maybe like The Goblin Brawler by Heather Hudson or The Goblin Warchief by Tim Hildebrandt, One of my favorites is the painting art for the "Goblin Elite Infantry" by Robert Bliss. They look mean and badass! Long pointy ears with long and sharp nose; guess this model would fill the Hobgoblin, just add...

In my opinion, Bugbears should look, hulky and more bear-ly, not so fit... Bugbear Footpath or Bugbear Gang Leader from the D&D minis for example.
Due to various circumstances, I had to do a flashfoward in my very first campaign. It was more of a learning experience for me than anything else, and I love the memories that came with it. I decided then to have the campaign help set the mood and world for the 2nd campaign I recently started, whereas it was the original world now polished up and 10+ years after Torog's death and freedom. I think ending campaigns is bittersweet. I have a question, out of all the possible main plot arcs to...

I have a question, out of all the possible main plot arcs to come up with, how do you know which ones are the ones you should use?
In my opinion, there are a few things the wrong with this gnoll; a) the little braids near the ear, need to go, this is, in a sense, a bipedal, humanoid hyena, so the ear hair, looks unnatural, b) they need to look dumb, but not like Quasimodo, the hunchback thing is weird and awkward, it needs to look hyena like, so have their back straighter, but give them sloping shoulders, c) their knees do not ALWAYS have to be bent, they are humanoids, so give them something that says 'feral' without...

article suggestions: 1) Random Generation Tables (do you use them, tips on making them, finding them, where they belong in the game etc) (actually this would be a great contest, everyone send in their best D20 Random gen tables, pick top five!) 2) Map Fu part II 3) Protecting the players from themselves. for example, I am running the tomb of horrors 4e adventure. Halfway into the tomb the players trigger a trap which is an elemental vortex/vent which attempts to suck them in and attack...

3) Protecting the players from themselves. for example, I am running the tomb of horrors 4e adventure. Halfway into the tomb the players trigger a trap which is an elemental vortex/vent which attempts to suck them in and attack them etc. For some reason, they all decide to climb on tensers floating disc and fly straight into the portal. it attack each of them, 3/6 characters go down. Unfortunately, anyone slain while IN the vent is wholly consumed, body and gear.
That is really interesting! We Ravenloft fans are always interested in lost material. Any chance that adventure still exists somewhere and might see the light of day? (Speaking on behalf of fraternityofshadows.com, we'd be happy to host it, on the off-chance that it would be allowed...)
I actually ran a session just like this last night; upon realising that an Atahasian merchant house is prepared to deploy quite a bit of muscle to try and get money out of them, the party spent over an hour elaborately planning out how they were going to weasel their way out of the problem, with scapegoats, false messengers and a laundry list of contingencies. The only problem now is appropriately conveying the consequences next week...

One of the best sessions our group ever had was on a week when I was least prepared. Last minute I threw together a few encounters and a loose story and hoped my players wouldn't be too disappointed. I felt bad for not being more prepared and having something more engaging for them. Instead, the players ended up fleshing out all the holes in my loose story, and had one of the most memorable encounters our group has ever played! To this day we STILL laugh about how awesome that session...

It was a good lesson to me that I've learned - sometimes not having everything rigidly planned out allows the players to be more creative... and sometimes their ideas aren't that bad!
