    Contest Winners and Computer Explosions

Yeah, so I'm pretty sure my computer is either trashed or really needs a new fan. When I press the power button, the fan starts to make a noise like it's building up to a fantastic explosion, which is never a good thing. This news makes me (especially this week) so indescribably annoyed. Fortunately, I have a netbook and most everything backed up except some stuff on itunes and the email addresses of everyone who entered the Unbroken Chain release contest. But don't despair, I did have all the names intact and written out on little slips of paper for the drawing, so let's put aside the nasty computer business for a moment and announce the winners, shall we?

    Drum roll...

Congratulations to the Grand Prize winner of an autographed book and an itunes gift certificate: Joseph Laubach

Congratulations to the Runner Up winner of an autographed book: Jacob Jones

As I am not currently in possession of your email addresses, I must unfortunately beg the winners to either A) email me again and include your theme song (so I can match up your entries), mailing address, and how you would like your book personalized, so I can mail the prizes immediately, or B) Hold tight until I can get my hard drive salvaged and get your contact information off of it. Either way, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the contest. I had a record number of entries, and I loved getting to read about all your theme songs. Some favorites included: Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, Concerning Hobbits, and the entrant who had theme songs for himself and several of his D&D characters. You guys are all awesome.

Though I saw it on the shelves at at least one Barnes & Noble over the weekend, today is the official release date for Unbroken Chain! Click here to order your copy, or if you'd like a preview of the book, check out the sample chapter on the Wizards of the Coast website. It will explain the puppies.

The Unbroken Chain Release Contest of Doom is open until midnight central time tonight, and I've already had a couple last minute entries, so if you're thinking of entering, time is running out! The winners will be announced here on the blog tomorrow after I've emailed them privately. Thanks to all who entered. I had a blast reading about your theme songs, and I'll point out some of my favorites tomorrow.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy Unbroken Chain!

Unbroken Chain Release Contest of Doom!

All right, people, the time has come.  We're a little over a week away (time flies!) from the release of my third Forgotten Realms novel, Unbroken Chain.  I've said before that I'm incredibly excited about the release of this novel.  I think it's my strongest work to date, and it not only gave me the chance to explore the shadar-kai, one of the most challenging races I've ever come across in the Realms, but it led me to create Ashok, a protagonist that I'm in love with, and I hope my readers will love him too.

It's been a tradition ever since the release of my first novel to celebrate with a themed contest.  Last time it was movie quotes, and this year the theme is music.  I listened to a lot of music while writing Unbroken Chain, but music has always been a part of my writing experience.  The right battle music inspires a blood-pumping fight scene, and a well-placed ballad can open up unexpected windows into a character's emotions.  And let's face it, in life, don't we all wish we had our own theme music we could call up when we needed it most?

In the spirit of that, my contest is this: I want to know your theme song.  To enter, just send me an email at jaleigh_onyxv@yahoo.com with your name and what song best represents you.  The contest will be open from now until July 6, 2010, at which time I will put all the entries into Jaleigh's Magical Gardening Hat and draw two winners.  The first place winner will receive a signed copy of Unbroken Chain and an itunes gift certificate.  The second place winner will receive a signed copy of Unbroken Chain.  As with all previous contests, the theme is just for fun, so if you don't want to tell me your theme song, just send me your name and you'll be entered in the drawing.  And if you aren't one of the winners but are still interested in a signed copy of Unbroken Chain or any of my other novels, you can visit my website at jaleighjohnson.com for details on how to get a signed bookplate.

Remember, the deadline to enter is July 6, 2010.  Good luck!

    It's coming...

Yikes and shame on me, no new blog posts here since February. Time to catch up.  My new and improved website is live--yippee!  Just in time because it's a little over a month until my latest Forgotten Realms novel, Unbroken Chain, hits stores.  I've also received permission to share the final cover art.  The image on Amazon, Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc. is just a placeholder.  The actual cover can be viewed here on my live journal.

Caption: He's just playing with the puppies, I swear!

Seriously though, I like this cover quite a lot.  It captures the essence of the book--on an actual and metaphorical level--perfectly.

In other news, with the release of Unbroken Chain approaching, I'm making preparations for the official UNBROKEN CHAIN RELEASE CONTEST OF DOOM!!  That's what I've chosen to call it, anyway.  I'm still deciding on the details, but there will be at least one autographed book given away and as always an extra special prize to the winner based on an arbitrary theme of my choosing.    I'm also working out the details of how you can get autographed books and/or bookplates from me--watch my website in the coming weeks.

That's all the news there is for now.  Back to the writing I go!

    The next round is up!

And for those of you following along who want to learn more about me or my work or have a burning question of your own that's not getting answered by the roundtable (although what could be more important than knowing what to do in the Zombie Apocalypse?), feel free to friend me here on the Wotc Community, or you can chat with me via my blog.  I enjoy company, and I serve cake...er, but it's the virtual kind.
