About This Group

"Iomandra and the Dragon Sea" is a 4th Edition D&D campaign that Chris Perkins runs for two different groups of players on Monday and Wednesday evenings. It combines elements of the core D&D world with a pervasive nautical theme. For details, check out the "Iomandra and the Dragon Sea" wiki.

How are you handling PC control over ships?

I suppose if the vehicle is magic you could use an Arcana check to say avoid a series of coral heads during a combat.  If the ship is non-magical perhaps a Wisdom check to avoid a hazzard?... more

Havn't read through all the materials of this setting but my initial impression is that this is a D&D take on Earthsea. Maybe will look deeper on this once my group and I have finished our Eberron Campain.

Wow you've done a great job with Iomandra and it'd deffently be nice to see you put together some sort of book and self publish it. I'm sure that you can get the rights being a 3rd party contributer. With a book out there I could see Iomandra spreading like wild fire.

Definately stealing some elements and ideas for my setting and campaigns. Love how much work you put into everything. So when are you going to invite Penny Arcade and Co. to play in Iomandra?

Figured I'd finally thank you. One and a half years ago, when I was writing up stuff for my campaign setting, I chanced upon your pre-game handouts for this campaign. I copied and pasted them to use the general form, and wound up stealing a few big chunks for my own use. It has served me very well. In fact, the party warlock has just reclaimed the Fathomreaver, and is about to make a bid for power at Krakenholt. Thought you'd like to know.

Still adjusting to this new WotC Community thing, so I hope this is the right place. Anyway, I love what I'm seeing. I'm definitely considering borrowing this setting myself. I particularly love how the sea has borders on all sides, much like old sailing maps marking the end of charted waters with "Here there be dragons." Except it's here in the setting that there be dragons. Clever twist. And the deadly borders are truly evocative. I love fantastic terrain like this. I would really love to play in a game and discover the secrets of the Black Veil, or explore the Eye of Io, or fight to escape the pull of the Demonmaw Sargasso. If I ran an Iomandra campaign, I would definitely include a run-in with Tao Feng, was it? I can't seem to view the wiki anymore. Is this a bug, or is that just because I'm not a member of this group? Anyway, I'm talking about the dracolich. I'd give him custom stats including a soul shroud like death giants and death titans have. The waters around his island would be inky black, with the lost souls appearing to be in the water. Maybe to the extent of what we see in the Underworld in Disney's Hercules. More likely just moaning faces that you barely glimpse before they vanish from sight. An island always surrounded by ghostly mist, etc. It is obviously a haunted island. I'm still up in the air about this myself, but I think it might be worth considering using Aberrant Dragonmarks to represent the taint upon the bloodlines of those who slew Io's three fallen children. Contagion traces to the slayers of one exarch, Terror to a second, and Madness to the third.
