Since artificers have such a superb at-will in Magic Weapon or the master wand's Static Shock, a lot of the time you are going to want to use that as your standard action. Happily, a number of their encounter powers are immediate interrupts or reactions which not only frees your standard action up but also keeps you, the player, involved in the game during other players' turns in a way most PCs aren't.
