I just did some math for Avenging Resolution, and it's not as terrible as suggested. We'll assume you only really consider it with a 2d6 weapon, since its benefit is doubled up. The average damage result for a maul with AR vs. a mordenkrad is a wash. Each [[W]] in either case is a 2d6, so we can see that the AR vs. Brutal difference is:
AR: 2 * (3+3+3+4+5+6)/6 = 8 per W Brutal: 2 * (2+3+4+5+6)/6 = 8 per W
Therefore the results are effectively identical. Further, while not the greatest idea ever, you can take AR on a mordenkrad for an extra +.4 per [[W]] bonus (assuming 1's are rerolled until that 2+ is found) which isn't particularly great, but is another boost. If you were going Spiked Chain or Glaive for some reason, it also is a pretty solid choice for making every attack a near-crit.
In conclusion, for non-dwarves, AR with a maul or heavy flail is basically the same thing as mordenkrad training, and for races which get the 'fixed' version of racial weapon training feat in mauls or heavy flails would be better served with AR.
