I didn't vote it out, but I wonder if the opinicus would do better with its own name and more idea-provoking lore; a beneficial, if prankish, inhabitant of old ruins is bound to have more up its sleeve, yes?

I'd also like a "back" button so I can review my answers before submitting the whole thing, if possible. Good job showing us the current tallies afterward, tho' I don't know how to view them after re-entering the page.

I am very happy with these descriptions. Actually, I'd say this is my favorite post from this column so far. It gave me all kinds of ideas for my own campaign. The only improvements I can see would be to make Demogorgon more devious and Nyarlathotep-like, as suggested elsewhere in this thread by EmmeDiEmme.
And of course, a similar write-up for the cult of Orcus would be nice.

I sort of envision Devil Cults being grander in scale. Demonic cults, because of the chaotic beings they worship are ultimately self-destructive. They may last for a while, gathering more people through sheer potency, but eventually they will implode, largely precluding (to my mind) institutionalization.
Devil Cults on the other hand, I could see having a large and widespread following, covert AND overt. They are more systematic in their approach to evangelism because they make use of both...

slaad and modrons... both seem to exist in a vaccuum
neither interact with the blood war, githyanki, celestials, sigil or the prime material, they just patiently wait in their outer planes for someone to rock up
how about link Slaad into bullywugs or kuo toa?
i don't like the idea of slaad being abherrations, since abherrations are from beyond the great wheel/cosmos, not one chaotic aligned part of it. having said that, you could easily say ALL abherrations come from Limbo

I really prefer the more mantis-like (rather than worm-like, which seems off) presentation of the ankheg, particularly the one with the cobra like hood around it's head. That has become very iconic.

My theory on the purple worm is that it originally said "wyrm", but was edited by someone who didn't know it meant dragon.

Some of my fondest memories of my first campaign involve copious amounts of krenshars (our DM just kept rolling them for random encounters somehow so we kept fighting them but no fight was ever the same).

Winter wolf and displacer beast, as beasts in general, should be neutral.

Could be a Catoblepas too. Armoured african death-pig.

Another good idea; why limit (true) Gorgon/Medusa/Maedar to only humans when you can curse other races too by adding it as a template.

...halflings should return to their origins -hobbits- if we want that the power-of-the-genre-archetypes concept which D&D is based upon since it came to life spread its magic; it seems they do so and I'm very happy!

I've always thought of the Hydra as a multi-headed snake - a snake body, and each of its heads is a snake head, rather than a dragon-like head. I'd be find with multi-headed dragons being some other thing, but to me, the Hydra in popular culture is very strongly slanted in favor of snake-like.

I have always thought of the Hydra are a sort of amphibian with skin that looked like that of a Frog. With that being said I always pictured the Hydra having a body and legs best suited for the water but was never constrained to just Lakes, Rivers, and Seas. How does that fit with all of you out there what are your opinions?

I'm kind of fond of this rough interpretation of a hippogriff. I like how its head is both equine and avian.
      February 9, 2013 7:38 PM PST
You could make a disease or curse that turns normal animals into part eagle versions of them selves, Like Griffons.
But just on the topic of Hippogriffs I find myself liking the far right picture with all legs ending in talons. If you made it so the talons when together make more of a hoof shape and when the use them to pick up prey they extend out like normal talons I think that would be cool. Or make Griffons more like predators and Hippogriffs more like a domesticated version.

I don't like Alignment restriction for dragons or Genies... it's up DM what use or Aligment he wants his Dragon or Genie have.... been always against Aligment Restriction for those creatures....
and why is Shadow Dragon always Chaotic evil???? it like copy paste some kinde of Black Dragon again.... but if we said that Shadow dragon usually are of neutrall aligment then we will have a very interesting Dragon race.... after all the plane of Shadow are a neutrall plane... it's mortal denizens...

I agree. Alignment has been part of the rules for a long time and should continue to be in the rules. And DMs have always ignored any rule that they didn't like so if some DM doesn't like alignment they don't have to use it, but the rest of us want it in the game.

Couldn't we just drop colour-coded dragons, please? And while we're at it, forget about fixed alignments for a whole species of intelligent creatures? Dragons encountered by the players should all be individuals, anyway. Dragons should become a toolbox: Provide a general template and pick and choose whatever abilities make sense for the single, unique dragon the party is about to encounter. Make dragons special, rather than just another random monster encounter.
      February 19, 2013 11:56 AM PST
One of the things that should be considered is the Idea of Multi Headed Dragons and that multi Headed Dragons possess a collective Intelligence. in essence all of the heads united together as one mind

Sorry I hadn't seen you till now. Alas, Dragon's Den is no more. Currently we're having to either make our way to I.F. (A Street Games) or Logan (Phoenix Games). Phoenix is much friendlier, but A Street is quite a bit closer and bigger--if you're up to dealing with them.

I've seen you around the WOTC forum before, and you keep popping up whenever I do a search for gamers in pocatello Idaho, so I guess that I should contact you. I'm a new student at ISU and before I left home got really interested in playing some DND. I was just down at the Dragon's Den (about a 40 minute walk from campus) and they said that they have a group that plays every Wednesday at 7. I was just wondering about the group, how big is it, would they let a noobish player join in the middle of a game, and what would I have to bring, if anything? I have E copies of all of the 4e books through Arcane Power so i'm good there but I have no dice or minis. Thanks for whatever you tell can tell me.
