Two years is a long while isn't it?  I noticed the icons on the home page are all thats left of the graphics I did so long ago for the boards, but seeing them again made me tear up a little.  Who else is still around?

Very few people in the Rec Room.  Other areas are a bit more active, but since I don't frequent those areas I couldn't say how many vets remain.
At least I have my proper avatar now, I guess.  But man is this cloud dark.

The Off Topic Tavern is the 'new' Rec Room I think.

I occasionally wander around Magic RQ&A and YMtC, and every once in a while I stop by to see if anything's changed here here in the Rec Room. It hasn't.

Browsing this forum is like going back to where you used to hang out in your childhood, and seeing that it's just an empty, paved parking lot. This message board was where I learned my Internet 101, and to be honest, I really couldn't have hoped for a better place to do so - in fact, the only people online I constantly keep in touch with are from around here. Heck, I've been friends with some people here for longer than I've been with a lot of my real life friends.

I didn't frequent the Rec Room nearly as much as others did (MtG's YMtC was basically my Internet home), but considering how it acted as the crossroad of the worlds in bringing all members together, it saddens me the most to see this area inactive.
Don't be surprised if I suddenly disappear/reappear, it means I'm just on an Otherworldly Journey .

Its sad when people move on due to forces you can't control.

Wizards tried to turn the forums into Facebook. It blew up in their faces. Now a large part of the forums that aren't part of WotC's major properties are a dead husk.

I was thinking that it's sad that I remember every single person who posted in this, if G_F is who I think he is.

It was more than just the Gleemax Project.  It was a perfect storm of crappy timing on WotC's part.  Not only was there Gleemax, there was Gamer_Zer0 and the release of D&D 4E.  Adding in to that was when they fired Myst, Althalus, and others as WizOs.  Sometimes they were canned for "good" reasons (I remember one WizO got fired for trying to give us information but apparently gave too much), and some for horrible reasons, like not living in the US.

Yup, Gleemax happened.
And then 4e and the board redesign happened.

Basically, WotC put idiots in charge of the boards who apparently thought that because they were popular they would stay popular no matter what they did.  They did stupid things, they drove people away, and offered nothing to get new people to come in.

Hence, dead boards.
