I'm researching and looking for advice, looking for a new game to play:

I used to play some D&D Miniatures, but I see that this line has been cancelled now.

I had wanted to try Heroscape (actually looks really awesome) but this has been cancelled a few months ago as well; bums me out.

So, I'm looking for ideas for a new gaming system to try in this genre. Essentially, I'm looking for a Fantasy style, table top, grid and turn based strategy miniatures game. Collectible or non-collectible; doesn't matter.

Right now, I'm playing a dumbed down version of DDM with my 5 and 6 year old kids, but I would also like to play "for real", maybe even at local gaming shops, etc.

Of course, one could continue to play DDM or Heroscape so long as there are players around, but I don't want to spend a ton of money for gaming material that is no longer in development; also the cost of DDM and heroscape is escalating on eBay, etc.

Any ideas?

Heroclix still seems to be alive and kicking, I believe they are even coming out with Lord of the Rings Heroclix this year since you say you're into fantasy style games. I bought the Heroscape D&D starter set because I was curious too, but honestly it doesn't seem to have as much depth as most of the miniatures games I've played. I've been looking at Monsterpocalypse a bit, but it's hard to buy into a new game when there's no venues or players around.

It's odd how just a few years ago there were so many miniatures games on the market you didn't have the time or money to play them all, and now it seems like it's totally dried up. I miss those days.

OK, forgot about Heroclix. I'll look out for the LoTR stuff.

Exactly; a few years ago, I didn't have the money to spend to really collect stuff (actually sold a bunch of D&D Mini's on eBay.... ugghh), and now I have more time (out of school, etc.). So, yeah, you hit the exact point I'm feeling

Thanks for the advice!
