My apologies for the delay; I apparently still haven't memorized everyone's names, so I didn't realize that everyone had replied to Sorik already.
Sorik relaxes considerably once he hears that you decide to take Captain Faringray's suggested route. "Good," he mutters to himself, "Maybe I can make it out alive after all."
Answering the halfling, Sorik says, "The tower? It's still a ruin, we'd only been working on this site for a couple weeks. The upper levels are completely gone. I can't say anything about those damned bandits, I just don't know."
The dwarf continues to be reluctant to speak at all, tense about the situation and fearful for his life.
It continues to be rainy and foggy as you walk along the river.
The weather lightly obscures anything with 5 squares of you; heavily obscures anything 5 or more squares from you.
It is dreary and uneventful as you cut across the rugged, grassy terrain to the west of the river. Most of the day's travel takes you near to Vanamere's Tower, but Sorik has you stop and spend a cold night in the grass.
The next day, a few more hours' travel takes you to the Tower. The rain and fog make it hard to discern your surroundings. Sorik looks at you wearily. "We're almost there," he says, leading up you a gentle hill dotted with head-sized chunks of gray stone half embedded in the ground. You also see bones lying amid the grass and weeds.
What would you like to do?

Ander approaches some of the bones strewn admidst the weeds, looking them over before shrugging and looking toward Sorik. "Your friends?"roll

Mikal's mood has darkened due to the rain and fog and a night of sleeping outside on the ground. He doesn't openly complain about it...yet. However, it is clear that he isn't his typical jovial self.
Can anyone else see more than about fifteen to twenty paces out? Perhaps it's a good idea if we take on some semblance of a formation that would leave us prepared should we get ambushed by the aforementioned bandits. I have a feeling that these brigands might not be interested in a diplomatic solution to the situation. Plus, it wouldn't make for the best bard's tale either, especially if someone were to get killed so soon - worst of all me.
Mikal draws the last part out in one last attempt at humor, though it seems clear that his mood just won't allow for proper delivery of the line. He glances around at the others.

Sorik looks at Ander in confusion. "My . . . friends?" He looks at the bones. "These were here before. I think they're from the battle with Vanamere."
After Mikal's comments, Sorik agrees: "I'll be in back. You go first." He starts to inch back.

As the dwarf moves towards the back of the group, Mikal focuses on Mendabar.
We all know who is going in there first. No point wasting time pretending we don't.

Mendabar eyes the bones on the ground. "I can see why this place might interest a necromancer." He then, as quietly as he can, leads the approach to the tower.
Moving at half speed so no penalty to stealth, keeping as sharp an eye out as I can - which isn't much given that I'm a fighter. Passive perception 12 and stealth 13. He has his sword out and ready to intercept anyone who might try to pass him. He eyes the huddle of ranged attackers behind him. Not as good when you can't see, now is it? He speaks up. "If any of you need a weapon, I do have a few spare daggers. Come on, nothing to be shy about. Just a few boulders, skeletal bones, roving madmen, and cackling necromancers - since its all quiet right now, I'm hoping they're all asleep."
Any information on what we can see about the tower? Forbidding entryways, Gothic windows, graffiti written in blood, skull door knockers, weirdly placed tombstones, that kind of thing?

I don't see any reason for our guide here to have to re-enter Vanamere's Tower. Do any of you? Assuming a positive response, Alek continues. When we come within sight of the tower, Sorik you will be released from your obligation and may return to Fallcrest.Alek moves to the middle of the group.

"That's fine by me." Mendabar replies.

Sounds ok to me. As everyone starts getting into a formation, Jonn positions himself so that he is directly behind Mendabar, staff ready. He also decides to summon his draconic familiar and commands him to fly 2 squares up and 3 in front of Mendabar. He's with me, he tells everyone as the tiny draconic figure materealizes on his shoulder and then flies to scout ahead. Stealth check (1d20+7=11)

As Mendabar offers up weapons, Mikal speaks up. I normally rely on my words or natural arcane tendencies of my elven heritage, but if you happen to come across a crossbow or sling, I'm pretty handy with those in a pinch.
