As the maps are actually smaller than the scenario layouts, it's important to know how the Managing The Battle Map actually works, and I'm a little confused.

The text (p.13) states "At any time during play, any player may adjust the positions of all aircraft.... toward the centre of the map" [my emphasis].

So I guess this mean that planes can be moved during a single model's Movement Phase rather than at the start?  It may be easier to work this rule if it is restricted to the active Player's choice - or even actual model in multi-player games?

Or have I missed something?

I interpret that to mean "as needed". If the action is moving in one direction, rather then run out of map , shift all planes so as to leave plenty of manuvering room.I would like to hear what others think on this matter. I have solved it for the most part by getting a very large map.
I can hardly wait for the next set, and would really like to see more of the WAR AT SEA and A&A mini's series.Laughing

How and where did you get the map?

I guess I was thinking that when one player wants to fly off and the other brings them back towards the centre of the map, that becomes a tactic i.e stopping a plane from escaping so you can shoot him down?

First I just purchased another starter set, and added maps as needed. Then I found www.hotzmats.com  They make large mats .
Both sides must agree on map usage as leaving the map is / can be considered a retreat , and is then out of the game.
As a tactic I do believe that retreat is a tactic, and if you want to stop him. you would have to catch him. If he is faster he will always get away ,no matter how much map you have. Remember fighter battles were of very short duration and range .Smile

That's really helpful, thanks.  Good advice too, I may consider a second copy of the game because I need more Spitfires!
