Hello my fellow gamers!

I am an old school D&D player that started with the original gold box D&D and Chainmail miniatures rules and played through DND 3e as a tabletop PnP player in my youth and then life, wife, kids, etc happened and I got away from it for years. Later I played a bit more but mostly computer RPG's on my Commadore 64 like Bards Tale, and Pool of Radiance and other Gold Box games. I moved on to Muds and Gemstone III and IV then to EverQuest, WoW, Rift, Age of Conan, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and other MMOs etc. I also played a lot of CRPGs like Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor, Elderscrolls series, and many more PC games like NWN and NWN II,  Dragon Age and such.

I am familiar with D&D 3.5 rules mostly from  Neverwinter and DDO. I have never played with the new DND 4e until I played Heroes of Neverwinter on FB recently and I am playing around with DND next now for the playtest.

Anyway, I want to start playing again first as a player to get my RPG adventuring legs back and then maybe as a DM and create a campaign and adventures. I have lots of time to play and create due to the fact that I am disabled (I prefer to think of it as retired) at 52 years old!

So, my problem is that I don't have anyone local to play with. I am more than willing to use a virtual table top to play with a group online or severa groups online. I purchased the D&D 4e starter set and some dice. I lost all my old books over the years or game them away including all my old modules too

I am planning to subscribe to D&DI and hope to get beta access to the D&D virtual tabletop. I also downloaded maptool but I am just learning to use it and trying to locate resources including tiles, rulesets, macros, icons, etc for it and any modules that might be designed for it if there are any. Any help in locating this stuff would be greatly appreciated! Also, is there any kind of discount promo code for D&DI in the starter set (mine should arrive in about 10-14 days in the mail) or some place else? If not, I guess there is no reason to wait to subscribe but being on disability I need to save every penny I can so any discount on it would be nice.

Of course I will be getting more D&D Books too as I can afford them and slowly build up my collection again. I understand the D&DI will go a long way for me in the mean time with access to rules and tools. I am happy to find there is an amazing amount of free stuff to download from WoTC too! I am using HTTrack to mirror all the D&D 3.5 archives on my PC for my own reference. Pretty cool stuff.

I am also willing to consider subscribing to a different VT like Fantasy Grounds II or something else if it is more widely used by online playing groups. I guess I want to know what is the most popular or widel used virtual tabletop (I am thinking it is probably maptool). I am also downloading all the DM and adventure tools I can find to help me create and build my adventuring campaign world. Is there a tabletop that is is not only good for online group playing but works also for solo playtesting? I mean if I make a party of 4-6 characters and run them through my own adventure to test it out or just to play solo if I can't find a group.

I set up a profile here on WoTC and joined a few groups and I am hoping to make some new friends to adventure with. Please consider adding me as a friend or as a player for your online group.

I am willing to play in any campaign setting but prefer one that is kind of open ended like Ebberon to include as many classes and adventures as possible. If it fits in D&D it pretty much fits in Eberron, so they say. Also I still play DDO and that is set in Eberron so it is familiar to me somewhat. I am just now learning 4e but can also play any previous editions, especially 3.5 which has been my favorite for some time now.

Anyway, thanks for reading my long winded post. I hope to make some new freinds and re-learn to play the game with this new edition and be able to better playtest DND Next as well. Feel free to inbox me and or friend me on Facebook (facebook.com/dew1960). I could also use some friends in HoN on FB.

Good On Ya!
