I think RvM brings up a good point in that with pilots being a separate factor from the aircraft there are grey areas regarding what "nation" they should fit under. Does the Polish Hurricane pilot have a Polish or British roundel on his card? For that and others like it, we just don't know right now. GW- On the Underground we have some great stuff (I made it, so no bias there ) for speculation and what's known so far. I'll let you borrow it for a cookie.

Right - but as it were American pilots who flew the P-40 the reasoning could be they are america.
Personally I hope China is in (I-16 + P-40) , but I doubt that we will get Poland and SA as separate nations.
Finland and/or Romania could be in with a Bf 109 :D
BTW I saw that the starter has 31 cards - could it be that the starter has a starter only plane that does NOT appear in a Booster (Bf-110?)
Then I could add another plane to MY list :D

The Flying Tigers are a unique bunch in that they weren't technically part of the US armed forces. I guess you could call them mercenaries (or use the modern euphemism "private military contractor). However, they kept very close ties with the US armed services and were eventually absorbed back into the Army Air Force. I could see them going either way on this one.
Maybe someone with more knowledge on the AVG could weigh in?

Well Steve its almost the week-end and if you didn't sneak out early how about letting us get a look at a blank card for the week-end. We know we can't get the juicy info until later but a blank wouldn't give too much away but would give us something to talk about on the week-end.
Cheers Ober

The whole pilots issue has my wheels turning on other potential application for the game.
If it is not already hard wired into the game I want to explore the potential of creating Pilots that can progress to ace status and gain Special abilities.
Being a big fan of league matches it would be great fun to have core pilots of your squadron evolve during a league. I can already picture posting match results with kills, Bails, KIA's (replace with green pilot) &MIA's (miss next match).
I'm salivating in anticipation of seeing the rules.

As von Manthofen surmised, the Bf 110 is available only in the starter set.
Pilot skill is noted on the stat cards, which means it is hardwired into a plane's cost. It is a separate stat, however, so I suspect it won't be long before we see variant rules allowing for pilots to begin as rookies and work their way up to ace status over the course of a campaign. (Back in the 80s, we played Dawn Patrol campaigns that went on for years and had a blast as our pilots gained skill, had narrow escapes, developed feuds with enemy pilots, and eventually went down in a blaze of glory or ignominy.)
We're already working out rules for playing without the map. Since the planes have hexagonal bases, the conversion is a breeze.
No stat card preview, though, not even a blank one. That needs to wait until "official" previews kickoff, probably in Rich's blog.

That is great to hear Steve. Being an 80's gamer myself I always appreciated games that had the ability evolve and allow for some esoteric intimacy with the units. It just makes playing that more of an "Event".
Nice catch on the starter BF110 RVM.
