This came up in a game last night- Does an island block a Fencers line of sight to a hex that the owner wants to use the AA SA in? In other words, can a Fencer fire at enemy aircraft on the other side of an island?

An Island blocks line of sight through / into / out of a square.
Just my $.02 worth.

In other words, can a Fencer fire at enemy aircraft on the other side of an island? Given that the Escort SA works against Fencer's Fighter Cover SA, I'd say it's a sort of abstract aircraft attack, rather than AA in the usual sense, in which case islands should have no effect.

Jolly-Roger is correct. Units in island sectors can't attack or be attacked by units outside that island sector.

Neither unit is in the island sector. The Fencer can attack an enemy aircraft 3 squares away, but what if an island is in one of the intervening squares?

Sorry; I misunderstood the question.
The same rule applies, however. Regardless of what it represents, the attack originates from the Fencer, so the Fencer needs LoS to the target.
