I need some help with this sneario. This is what I have so far:

  • Party is distracted by distracti
  • Highwaymen/Slaver Rouges knocks out other party members, and distracti knocks out leader
  • Group wakes up either chained to wall/or in cells (not sure, suggest one please Wink)
  • Slaver overseer gathers slaves (as well as most of the party) and sends them to work in a mine.
  • Players try to revolt
  • If succed they free most of the slavers, and get there equipment back.

So my question is, do you think this is good enough? Any suggestions would be helpful as well.

-Thanks

It might be. There are some considerations to think about:

  • What happens if the party isn't distracted?
  • What happens if the highwaymen/slaver rogues fail to knock out out the other party members?
  • What if the distraction doesn't knock out the leader?
  • What if the players don't try to revolt?
  • What happens if they don't free most (or any) of the slaves?
  • What happens if they don't get their equipment back?

And one last: Have you talked with your players about playing a capture/escape scenario?
No amount of tips, tricks, or gimmicks will ever be better than simply talking directly to your fellow players to resolve your issues.

First off, Thanks for replying so soon!

  •  If the party isnt distracted well... I dont know, what do you think the slavers would do?
  • If they fail then they will break into open combat
  • If the distracti does not knock out the leader, then the other slavers will help. Either going for a knock out, or worst case, death.
  • If the players do not try to revolt then... why wouldent they?
  • If they choose not to free any of the slaves then fine.
  • If they dont get there eqiupment back then, then they will try to see if they can get to the nearst town ( I dont know about this one, whaty do you suggest?)

And yes, my players are down for it

Thanks

That was the most important question anyway! If they're down with doing an escape scenario, then I would suggest skipping the whole beginning with the bandits. The outcome is known already, playing out the battle will be kind of a waste of time if you think about it. Characters can be pretty resilient, too, so you may have to keep piling it on to get to that known outcome. That can be frustrating and eat up time better spent.

So if you have your players' consent, go ahead and start them in the jail cells or chained up (maybe a bit of both), and either narrate how they got there or (my preference) ask them how they got there, offering questions framed by the prep. Last week they were traveling the countryside, now they wake up in jail cells... what happened? How did [your NPCs] get the better of them? What horrible thing is going to happen to all the slaves if they don't get out of here before the new moon? Ask more questions to flesh it out, then incorporate the details they've given you.

At that point, just describe to them the circumstances of their situation, what they know about their environment, and then let them figure it out. Be sure to throw interesting and fun complications at them whenever appropriate.

No amount of tips, tricks, or gimmicks will ever be better than simply talking directly to your fellow players to resolve your issues.

What if my players do not know how to respond to the question? or they say something like, I am the dm, you should tell us. Should I then narrate what happend? Or what?

-Thanks

As I said above, you can either narrate how they got there or ask them. This is only if you have their consent to place them in the jail cell as the opening premise to the adventure.

If you or they do not want to do that, then at least give them a fair shot at defeating or otherwise circumventing the bandits in the initial scene as you initially imagined it. If they beat the bandits, then off they go to other adventures.
