The campaign the group and i are playing has me playing as a shadowcaster. They are a pretty much unknown and unpowered class that i wanted to try to see how it plays. I realized early on that i would have to prestige if i wanted to be stronger and be more dangerous in combat. The class i am prestiging into is another one of those unknown prestige classes called Master of shadow.
Here is the question. One of the requirements to prestige into a master of shadow is that you need to have a feat called Shadow Famliar which gives me a famliar simliar to how a wizard gets a fimliar but it is given the Dark template that is stated in the Tome of Magic book.
when you Prestige into the Master of Shadow you get a Shadow Elemental as yoru familiar from now on my question is does it keep the Dark template and the reason why i ask is that with the dark template it would get a +10 movement speed bonus and could hide in plain sight and has resistance to cold 10.
If someone can help me figure this out since i am not sure what the wording of the book means by it. I can't tell if the elemental gets to have the template or not.

The book kinda contradicts itself. The feat that is required for the PrC states that if you get an alternative familiar (I'd count the shadow servant as a familiar), it gains the dark template. On the other hand, as you level up, your shadow servant picks up cold resistance 10 at either level 4 (as stated in the table) or level 2 (as stated in the text below the table).
Since this is the case, I'd say that you'd have to ask your DM. Whenever there's a contradiction or a question of this magnitude, your DM will be the final arbiter of the case.
