I love how this became a debate about the different versions of vampires that have popped up over the years when I was simply looking for a D&D rules explanation. Way to blow up my thread with irrelavent nonsense.

Well, direct rule-based answers were covered on page 1. The rest is basically just an extended discussion of your second question that goes off on a tangent since you hadn't been posting with your ongoing concerns.
I wouldn't worry about it too much if you're otherwise happy with the information you got; just like in the phyiscal world, lots of discussions start out as a simple question about something else.

Zauber's Mutable Rod: This rod has a number of useful functions that make it easier to live in the wilderness. It is made of polished wood, with five studlike buttons on one end. Each button produces a different effect when pressed. Unless otherwise noted, the rod’s functions have no limit on the number of times they can be employed. • When button 1 is pressed, one end of the rod produces a small flame, equivalent to a candle. • When button 2 is pressed, the rod unfolds into a two-person tent, complete with bedrolls and warm blankets. • When button 3 is pressed, the rod becomes a one-handed hammer, suitable for pounding pitons into a wall. • When button 4 is pressed, the rod becomes a sturdy iron spade. • When button 5 is pressed, the rod becomes a wooden bucket able to hold 2 gallons of liquid. Once per day, it can be commanded to fill with fresh water. If the rod is seriously damaged or broken in any of its alternate forms (button 2, 3, 4, or 5), it reverts to its basic rod form and cannot be activated for 24 hours. Moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Craft Rod, minor creation; Price 375 gp; Weight 2 lb.

Chill. Look, conversations evolve. That's the nature of communication. The topic in the OP was dead anyways, already answered. So, really, stop whining. Suck it up, and get over yourself.

Umm ... welcome to internet forum discussion? We're glad to have you? Srsly, as CJ said conversations evolve - more rapidly, it seems, on internet boards. No offense was meant and no one wanted to ruin your day. If you've got an issue with the answers that were provided, address it. if you've got more questions, ask them. It's all good.

What you can get out of this is that, as the DM, you basically have free range on what you can do with your vampires, You don't need to follow the "rules" for standard vampires, you can create your own, just make sure to set the Challenge Rating appropriately. You can give the PCs what lore they would have about your vampires according to a Knowledge check. Give Vampires of different species different lore, whatever, that is up to you as DM, and isn't something you need to justify with the rules (so long as you are consistant with what you do, balanced and the players enjoy the game)
