That is correct, yeah. The question is, can you gain more surges from feats? The wording isn't the same as Vampire's so it might just permanently set you to two. If so, picking up Toughness + the mini-Toughness from HotFK ASAP is a great idea to make yourself beefy as hell, thus giving you time to let regeneration patch you up.
EDIT: Also, you don't necessarily need a Buzuq on hand before being dead. Just because you're a goner doesn't mean your part of the treasure is axed. Sure the DM can take it away, but that is not a given - and if so he should give you a buzuq if it's in your wishlist, even if allies are the ones to actually use it.
Mountain Cleave Rule: You can have any sort of fun, including broken, silly fun, so long as I get to have that fun too (e. g., if you can warp reality with your spells, I can cleave mountains with my blade).

One of my main points in making Beguiler was to add a minor action slide usable with my artificer trap powers right at level 1. I think this is a decent theme for an artificer as a result, as it really boosts the power of Ice Shard Traps. (Would have been even better with the original 10F: creatures you have concealment from have -2 to saving throws against your effects). The theme was meant to sort of mimic the 3.5 Beguiler (so the 10F was like the Cloaked Casting save DC boost from 3.5).

That would have been tasty
This is CharOp. We not only assume block-of-tofu monsters, but also block-of-tofu DMs.

You're already refluffing, what not refluff to something that doesn't suck?

I really like 3.5 Beguilers...I made a Favored Beguiler of Pelor in 3.5 who did all kinds of really wacky things.
I think one of the issues for that part, regardless of who made the edits, didn't end up feeling like a Beguiler to me. In retrospect, a minor action slide 3 is quite impressive for a controller and probably will end up Dark Blue in that regard, particularly at low level. I just wish the level 5/10 features had anything more going for it.

Brand new, rare, 4e content.
MwaO digs up a character of his from 3.5 to post. At this point I shouldn't even be surprised.

I've got to say that the Theme doesn't really feel that much like the 3.5 Beguiler to me either. I see the inspiration, but it's hard to get a whole class worth of flavor into the small package of a theme. The Beguiler was easily one of the things I liked best about 3.5.

I know. Beguiler was a very fun, flexible class with lots of different optimization routes.
I think I would have liked to see something similar to the Half-Elf racial power - spend a minor, pick from 3-4 options, be able to use Int or Cha for thievery at 5th, and at 10th, have some sort of capability of spontaneously casting enchant/illusions by sacrificing an enchant/illusion power for it at 10th. Perhaps by spending the minor as part of it.

MwaO posts a build.
Someone criticizes him for doing so. Equally predictable
