Serious, but deemed bizarre requests on my part are:
- Eliminate HP every level, thus eliminate the need to scale damage for balance purposes.
- Rework the entire HP/damage system to not depend on character level.
- Rework ability scores, add and remove where necessary. If a single ability doesn't give enough on its own, merge it with another ability. If a single ability gives too much, split it into two abilities or give some utility of that power stat to another stat.
- Tone down spellcasting dramatically to match a low magic level. No more endless discussions about caster and non-caster versatility and balance..
- Paperback core books at a reduced price.
- PDFs of books at a reduced price.
- Possibly eliminate levels altogether.
- Eliminate classes altogether.
- Fix armor and weapons.
- Completely eliminate save or die and save or suck effects.
Yeah, crazy, I know.
1. Amen Bound everything!!!!!! 2. Hallelujah 3. Hold on now preacher you might be going too far 4. As long as a preped archmage with minions is still a force Im ok on the fence. 5. The CUIRE is singing 6. Save the trees? 7. Not liking 8. No. Long story as to why. I do wish that the classes weren’t so stereotyped. Hate the current classes. I want really classless classes. Its a bit of a contradiction but I have my reasons. 9. Wotc loves their 5000gp platemail. To even question that is sacrilege 10. They are kinda doing that already. Compared to AD&D magic is far more forgiving.

Just one?
... ...... ........
Put Wrecan in charge, and start over.
I don't know if it would do much good at this point with the milquetoast temperature of the forums, but I guarantee you he knows more about what the community wants than a lot of the developers do - at least the ones of us who frequent the forums.
I don't even know if I'd end up liking the game then, but at least it would move forward.

Let's pretend that you could make one bizarre request that you could make for 5th edition and WOTC had to honor your request. What would it be?
Make character generation completely point-based. Like GURPS or Champions.
Oops. Ninja'd by one of the first replies. +1 to that I guess then.

Change abilities from the core 6 to just: Strength, Agility, Intellect, and Spirit.

Perception as an attribute. But again, not that bizarre.
Why Mechanics-Alignment Integration is Bad

so why even play a fighter if you can play the paladin the exact same way behaviorally and get added power to boot. "Paladin" is about accepting better game-enhancing mechanics at the price of more rigid in game behavior.
Really? So it goes something like this?
Fighter: "I want to be a paladin." NPC: "Really?" Fighter: "Yes." NPC: "Very well." Starts reading from a holy book while still in-character "Do you accept having to choose and stick to the lawful good alignment, eventhough neither of us actually knows that it exists or what it is?" Fighter: "I do." NPC: "Do you reject good game balance because you accidentally rolled a high Charisma?" Fighter: "What?" NPC: "I don't know what it means either." Fighter: "Oh. Umm, ok I do." NPC: "In the name of all that is metagamey and broken, accept these better game enhancing mechanics." Fighter: "These what?" NPC: "Just get out there and try to fulfill a million different people's notion of good while not violating and part of any of them."

So the system is designed such that every single hit needs to be described to avoid confusion? Here's a scenario. The players are nudists, everybody in the world are nudists, it's not weird, it's totally normal in this land. They are naked and they fight drakes taking damage throughout, but healing up with surges. Later they meet the guy who raised the drakes.
Part 1: I didn't describe any of the hits. What does he see?
Part 2: Lets say I described the drakes as biting the players, yet they healed up. What does he see?
Fencing & Swashbuckling as Armor.

Make it an MMORPG that matches the themes and tone of D&D in its visuals, character options, and gameplay, but where the only music in the entire game is muzak and lounge music.
Close to my thought.. so close, why have meh, for music, I would like blue oyster cult and other classic rock music and similar perhaps like in "A Knights Tale".

The monster manual should contain beautifully detailed full-page spreads of artwork for entries like "bear". This will help to draw out the magical and fascinating aspects of the mundane. It should contain neither art nor physical descriptions for things like "Remorhaz". This will help foster imagination among players.
Dwarves invented beer so they could toast to their axes. Dwarves invented axes to kill people and take their beer.
"Feel free to claim I said anything you like. How's someone going to call you out on it? Are they going to be all like, 'I know all of the things that Gary said, and that's not one of them?'" - Gary Gygax

Doesnt work with internet. People will compile art images of Remorhazes along with ad deals awaiting the flood of search engine hits.

Get rid of anything developed and designed so far and start again from scratch and taking a completly diferent direction with it. To design the best system possible from the mechanical point of view without caring for what anybody think...

The basic rules should be wrapped in copper foil, the standard rules in silver foil, and the advanced rules in gold foil.
Then what gets the tinfoil?
Ok, my turn.
Make D&D x MtG Edition. And, whenever possible, D&D vs Capcom. Because everyone wants a piece of Capcom.
