Looking for some type of gish, casting spells through his sword and whatnot.

Of curiousity, has this process given you a greater appreciation for how difficult it is to make poll on folks' D&D preferences?

Don't make them "vanilla D&D", keep them as they are aesthetic wise and the way the currently function (abilities, powers, etc)  Sorry if I wasn't clear (limited space didn't help too much)

I still don't understand. If you're going to make that distinction, then wouldn't it only make sense to include another options of every PHB1 race but with some alterations? Because without that, it sounds like you're suggesting that the current state, just the plain Tolkein 4, is the answer to this question.

Oh...  I meant that the second is "every race that's been in PHB1".  That was a severe flop on my behalf.  I suppose the 2nd to last one fills that answer, since others think the 2nd one is "tolkien 4".  Gah, I'm bad at polls.

In a somewhat ironic sense, yes.  It doesn't help that I haven't really done this before (and I probably should have taken more time in reading over things a little more, lol)

I figured out that when making polls it is better to stick with the text only and show the numbers and percentages.  The graphs are difficult to interpret and can disguise the actual numbers.  Just a suggestion.  I enjoy the polls however.  Good job.

Heh, thanks!  I probably should have asked someone a little more experienced with polls in the Knights of WTF to put this together.  But hey, glad you enjoy it.

For my opinion of feats, I put other.  I like the idea of rolling them into specialties to make them themes, but I think we need some form of character customization resource that isn't intrinsically bound to another element.  For example, if you wanted to make an archer who preferred dual wielding when in melee combat, you'd have to take either the archer or dual-wielder theme, but that would leave you without feats to support the other half of your idea.

so why even play a fighter if you can play the paladin the exact same way behaviorally and get added power to boot. "Paladin" is about accepting better game-enhancing mechanics at the price of more rigid in game behavior.

Really?  So it goes something like this?

Fighter: "I want to be a paladin."
NPC: "Really?"
Fighter: "Yes."
NPC: "Very well."  Starts reading from a holy book while still in-character "Do you accept having to choose and stick to the lawful good alignment, eventhough neither of us actually knows that it exists or what it is?"
Fighter: "I do."
NPC: "Do you reject good game balance because you accidentally rolled a high Charisma?"
Fighter: "What?"
NPC: "I don't know what it means either."
Fighter: "Oh.  Umm, ok I do."
NPC: "In the name of all that is metagamey and broken, accept these better game enhancing mechanics."
Fighter: "These what?"
NPC: "Just get out there and try to fulfill a million different people's notion of good while not violating and part of any of them."

So the system is designed such that every single hit needs to be described to avoid confusion?  Here's a scenario.  The players are nudists, everybody in the world are nudists, it's not weird, it's totally normal in this land.  They are naked and they fight drakes taking damage throughout, but healing up with surges.  Later they meet the guy who raised the drakes.

Part 1:  I didn't describe any of the hits.  What does he see?

Part 2:  Lets say I described the drakes as biting the players, yet they healed up.  What does he see?

I made a couple mistakes in polls to begin with.  Had to learn from it.

Better to have fewer choices and force people to pick.  Many people want another choice in a poll but it is impossible to have every possible choice.  Better to force them to pick their favorite from a small list of options so the poll can provide meaningful data.  Unique data entries are of little value in trying to make generalizable conclusions.

How exactly would you hybridize Vancian and AEDU? AEDU is already partially Vancian (Dailies and some Utilities). Are you talking about removing some at-will/encounter powers for Dailies?

Downgrade dailies to a more encounter based format.  They wouldn't be as powerful, but you could recharge at an encounter.  That was my idea.
