I have been known to act excited that my monsters are killing a pc in order to ramp up the tension. Unfortunately, I stop acting when the pc actually reaches negative numbers, so my players figured it out. I once duped an annoying player into putting on a Belt of Gender Change
This happened to me. It wasn't a belt, but a dagger. It was great. He wasn't able to afford the decurse for 7 levels(low wealth game). His character changed. It didn't really become more femenin, but his character developed quite differently than a half-orc sorcerer would have been. He started overcompensating and his chosen weapon through his lifetime was a big door. His spells shifted to touch and enhancement spells. He took some barbarian levels, and prestiged into a raging spellcaster class. When he finally got a wife, after he was fixed, he didn't treat her in a gruff manner or an object.
i have given up on trying to correctly pronounce the word "svirfneblins". I call them "smurfs", it's easier and more amusing.
You mean I'm not the only one? I wasn't able to pronounce it right till I heard an audio book do it.

I completely subverted a player's expectations in a two PC game, by planning in advance to have the monsters in the encounters not charge in to attack, but to keep working on their job. He set up to hit them as they ran past, and waited two rounds in hiding while they ignored him. It was a block and I think it was really frustrating for him. I decided not to do something like that to my players without finding out for certain if it's a scenario they would enjoy.
I said no to a player who wanted to make a spring-loaded harpoon gun, buy some drow poison, and ride on top of a landcart. I had the support of the other players, but came to deeply regret having said no, instead of "Yes, and...."
You have nothing to regret.
My username should actually read: Lunar Savage (damn you WotC!) *Tips top hat, adjusts monocle, and walks away with cane* and yes, that IS Mr. Peanut laying unconscious on the curb. http://asylumjournals.tumblr.com/

Things I confess but feel no guilt about- I at times tell my players "No" and to just deal with it, but only in extreme cases. I make up almost none of my adventures ahead of time. What I generally do is take an adventure concept, then just BS my way through it. My brain seems to have limits with my players. A player can contest something or request something custom only so often before my brain is apparently sick of dealing with it, then see the aforementioned "No" above.
Things I confess and feel guilty about- I don t fudge anything. Yes, this can be a bad thing. I have, over the last few years, killed more than a few characters because I roll my dice in the open. It has made them more cautious, however. I have a habit of growing attached to NPCs. Never enough to steal the spotlight, but though the players like the consistency, I feel it is a potential failing on my part because that's NOT the reason I do it. I do it because I like them.
