Using the Halfling Rogue & Dwarf fighter from the Pre-Gens, is this the way that MDD work?
Kobold (pretend he has enough HP to get hit a few times)
Begin round 1 (Surprise round):
Rogue attacks with advantage, but uses MDD to trade advantage for + 1d6x2 damage.
Kobold attacks rogue
Fighter Spends MDD to use Protect maneuver to reduce the damage done to the rogue by 1d6
Rogue attacks kobold, uses MDD to deal an extra 1d6 damage
Fighter attacks kobold, uses MDD to deal an extra 1d6 damage
Kobold attacks fighter, fighter uses Parry to reduce the damage by 1d6
Rogue attacks & uses MDD for 1d6 extra damage
Fighter attacks and uses MDD for 1d6 extra damage
yeah, that's pretty much how they're supposed to work.
there is some ambiguity about when exactly you get them back. in the last packet, it was at the end of your turns, but there's no direct mention about it in any of the docs.
Apparently they refresh every turn (not just yours).
Its in line with the last known definition of once per turn (once per creature's turn) and what's printed. Something usable once per turn is usable as soon as the new turn start.
FluxPoint asked for a clarification after we discussed it in the D&D Next Q&A due to ambiguity. The following Twitter feed clarify that its once per creature's turn and Start of Turn after some confusing tweets.
@OregonPinkRose: When exactly do martial dmg dice refresh? Can you use your d6 over and over to parry? Or just once a turn?
@mikemearls: Once per turn.
