Master Specialist, Complete Mage page 70.

Turwe.  And it's not a typo because the section "Becoming a Master Specialist" specifically recommends taking the Prestige Class at 4th level.

I don't get this: it is not possible to tackle the 4E module (or any other edition specific module) because the core is not finished. Right.
So why on earth are we even talking about PrC (or PP for what matters) now when we have 4 unfinished core classes and a handful of failed attempts at others? Why moving on to new stuff before having iterated properly on the basics?

Because the dirty little secret is that 4E isn't a priority.

I got that. I even understand that on a level, even if I don't personally like it. But surely PrC cannot have higher priority than resolving base classes. Isn't it?

I'm not sure why, wanting to get a healthy discussion started on PrCs, in any way implies they are done anywhere else.

I'd think they'd want to get things milling before they need to start tackling it. Otherwise, where would they want know to begin? Having the playtest community give feedback is a great way to find your starting point.

Because "kits", "prestige classes", "paragon paths" were all popular. So having something like that seems a right decision.

I hope, the hint, that it will be like a reward lets me hope, that it will work like 4e´s "boon" or "grandmaster training" system. Some extra options.
Hopefully completely level independent like magic items.

I expect from 5e, that the core is balanced. Everything else, which needs the "nod" from the DM, does not have to. It can just be on top of the balanced class, to give you a slight edge. Lets you feel better. And if the core works, the little unbalance does not make the system crumble.

And sorry for the derail before, but finally getting stats for the Tarrasque tells me, that someone is caring to fill the few holes left in 4e. Which makes me happy, even though I didn´t play it for a while now.

I read that the core was mostly finished and they like giving playtesters rules to gauge playtesters limits.

So, this is right up their ally.

And where is the new iteration of the Warlock and the Sorcerer? Where is the Ranger and all the other PHB classes?

My conspiricy theory? Because the demands of Hasbro mean they're a lot closer to done* than they'd like to admit and I suspect that GenCon2013 is a much more likely release date than 2014 is.

*done being defined as Hasbro telling Mike that if they don't have something published by X date (regardless of how complete it actually is), they're all fired.

I know Paragon Path came around at level 11, what was the minimum level for a Prestige Class in 3.X ? Level 3-5 ?

Level 5.

5-7 is average.  Some were as high as 10 or 11.  One that I know of was level 3.

In 3.0 maybe or it might have been a typing mistake, but in 3.5 you needed a minimum of 5 levels in regular classes to get a PrC. Althought some had higher prerequisites.

False.  In 3.5 there were MANY that required 7 and several at 10+, and one from the 3.5 Complete Mage that required level 3.

Factually incorrect, depends entirely on the specifics of the requirements of the PrC in question.  There was no general requirement whatsoever.

So which PrC of 3.5 let's you take it before someone has 5 levels in regular classes That is not a typo)?

Check page 197 of 3.5's DMG. It says that if you want to design your own PrC, make sure level 5 is the lowest level they must be to qualify. True story, bro.

Exceptions to every rule.  Master Specialist from the complete mage.  True story bro.

Homebrew design guidelines do not restrictions make.  Many PrCs were available starting 3-4.  Once I get back to my 3e materials I'll provide more examples.

Truer story, bro.

I've only seen one prestige class that was available before level 5.  Considering that my friends and I had almost every book, I doubt that "many" were available at 3-4.
