If anything, 4th edition version of Themes accomplish everything Mearls want to do with prestige class...starting at level 1...and without any obscure requirement for it and without crippling/sacrificing your overall character functionality for it.
I would like to see PrC's done like 4e themes. I think themes were one of the most brilliant additions to 4e.

..."window.parent.tinyMCE.get('post_content').onLoad.dispatch();" contenteditable="true"> It still bothers me that with Prestige Classes you have to interrupt and sacrifice your progression just to work in those new mechanics.
This is why my group will probably not use prestige classes.
More sex and gender equality and racial equality shouldn't even be an argument--it should simply be an assumption for any RPG that wants to stay relevant in the 21st century.
I could say anything in D&D is silly though, because it's a silly game and we are silly people.

If they mean modular design, meaning, PRCs will be in modules then lots of players may not use them.

Great. Now I'm hungry for In-N-Out.
Man, now I'm hungry for In-N-Out, and I've never even had it! I live on the wrong coast. On the other hand, I have had a Primanti Bros. sammich, so that likely makes up for it. :-)

@mikemearls: Uhhh... do you really not see all the 3e/4e that's basically the entire core system?

Hopefully, it will be soon. I'm looking forward to this one, as I suspect it will be the update with the math fix for the bestiary.
Also, I find it ironic that the L&L article got everyone ranting about PrCs, even though they likely aren't coming out this packet.

Mmmm. In-n-Out. Guss I know what's for lunch today.
All the references to a "local" chain tells me lots of us are (or at least were) in the same region.
Interesting.

When it is released expect a few "rage-quit" threads. Additional entertainment is always welcome.

In-N-Out is a West Coast thing, as I understand it, yes?
Now, I'm roughly three hours from the closest Primanti Bros, which is why I haven't had it often, but it's very yummy. So that may tell folks my general area as well.
We just got a Buffalo Wild Wings in my area that opened today. We went to try and get lunch, and boy was that a bad idea. Line longer than the building. Must have been the "free wings for a year" coupon books they were handing out, I suspect (and that's why we were going). So we had to go somewhere else for lunch instead.
And now I'm getting hungry again. Boo.
