I don't think they've written off 4E players or new players. I think they're just clueless and stupid.
I think everything else you just said is spot on.
Jealosy is the cause of such statements.
Or corporate culture. Mearls &c aren't clueless or stupid, but they're not making decisions solely as clued-in, bright, gamers & game designers...
Wait, thecasualoblivious made this statement because corporate culture?
It's hard for me accept such statements, even if they are true.
It always sounds like, "They aren't making my game I like, so they are ______"
Tantrum adds nothing.
Was that on purpose, or just a typo? Without any maliciousness toward thecasualoblivion, it is hilarious either way.

I think that now is the time for WotC to give us a taste of what to expect from the tactical module they keep referring to.
Have you considered that maybe the designers don't have it ready yet? Or ready enough for public viewing?

We would just like to have 4E carried onwards and further developed. Besides- we all loved WotC when they were doing 4th. They are no longer doing 4th. We hate WotC for canceling 4th. What is so hard to figure out about that?
In truth, those at WotC who made 4th are now long gone. A ballad for: Stacey Longstreet, Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, Stephen Radney-MacFarland, Stephen Schubert, Steve Winters, Richard Baker, Chris Youngs, Loggan Bonner, Bill Slavicsekk, etc.... With little of the 4th crew left I'm quite content with being a 4th edition Hater (please note we aren't haters of 4th edition, we are 4th Editioners who 'Hate'). The WotC we now hate is not the WotC that created our edition. Let me know if you need more clarifying terms here.
And I feel for you guy... she walked out on you in the middle of the night. Been there. But why try to sabotage everyone else's relationship now?
I don't need you keying my car, because last years news. I want you to find a new interest, and be whole again. I hope it's 5ed. But if it's not, I'm sorry but no amount of forum pleading for a second chance will bring her back. I'm sorry to make it so weird with this analogy... but sadly this is what's happening. Nobody is saying 4th ed got what it deserved, I'm just saying it's over.
Be a part of 5th ed or don't, but move on from 4th.
Well, except for the majority of the buying public, Hasbro execs, etc etc etc. You know, nobody important....
No, 4e got exactly what it deserved once it stopped making enough $. Its public execution in the paper was a nice bonus though.

What I meant was, nobody wants to see someone else's game get killed. That it didn;t deserve anyone's ill-will (you know like the kind 5e is getting).

Just curious...why would you say something like this?
I realize that the anonymity of the internet grants people license to say things to people that they would typically never say in face to face situations (unless you're a title-carrying MMA fighter, that is), but when it comes down to insults at such a personal level, what is it you hope to accomplish?
Ive personally called Mike Mearls out directly on twitter with language almost as harsh as that. It isn't quite the same as talking in person, but its as close as the Internet gets. I'm a confrontational guy.
I use the words clueless and stupid because they make big promises and fail to deliver. They're either not up to the task or have been lying this whole time.
You know, by doing that, you make a really good case for the developers NOT to listen to you....

zago here is an explaination for you. Check the join dates of alot of the posters here. Most of the more vocal ones are from around 2008 give or take a year They are basically continuing the tradiitons of the 4vengers group a while ago which was basically a forum police that chased anyone away who did not think 4th ed was the greatest thing ever.
Here's an alternate explanation. Some people who joined the forums while 3ed was the newest version of D&D left because 3ed was no longer the version WotC (and its forums) were headlining.
Between 2008 and 2011, the General D&D forum specifically stated that conversation was about the current edition of D&D (4ed), yet some people felt it was their god-given right (nay, DUTY!) to step into a forum for 4ed and tell everyone how bad it was. No constructive criticism, just "it sucks!" and "when will we get 5ed?"
So, when you tell me what a terrible thing it was that trolls got called out for trolling, I wonder how selective your memory is for forum decorum. Maybe it seemed more civil in your time because, back then, it was your POV that was doing the curbstomping of opposing views.
I don't recall the same reaction to a 3.5 splat book back in the day and some of them were actually garbage.
You don't recall people getting mad over the 3.5 PHB/DMG/MM? Because that was a big thing. What happened to Essentials paled in comparison to the furor over 3.5.

Ah, the daily blink. Always funny. Do people actually complain because Swifty said so? I know he's good, but I've never heard anyone basing their grievances with the game on something he said. Wouldn't surprise me though.
