Hello fellow gamers!

I've been out of D&D for MANY years and would like to get back into it, but, what I'm looking for is to be able to play D&D solo.

Is there ANYTHING out there that lends itself to play D&D solo? Maybe something card generated?

Maybe I'll need to come up with something on my own? Has anyone here know of anybody that has created the ability to solo play a D&D campaign?

This is what I was thinking of.....

Roll up a party of 3, 4 or however many characters. Have the game play follow a set of per determined random encounters. Maybe something along of having a hand drawn map and every "X" time units or per area have a random encounter. Each random encounter will be for different settings....woods, dungeon, castle, cemetary, etc....

Obviously, creating a story and making it flow will be near impossible. Any element of surprise, if any at all, will be minimal. The only "surprise" will be what encounter you flip ( ie....for a "woods" encounter....will I run into a pack of wolves?....a goblin scout team?.....some giant boars?)

I really want to keep stat keeping and information looking up to a minimum. Have most pertinant info on the encounter cards (all the creature attacks, stats, treasure, etc...)

Anyways, I'm just at the brain storming part of all this.

Please, feel free in offering advice, suggestions, anything.....even if you know someone who is/has attempted this.

Thanks!

Toward the back end of the 4E DMG, there is a section on playing D&D without a DM that you might want to check out. It's essentially about how to put together an appropriate encounter deck and map deck to create random dungeon encounters. It would probably run better with at least two people than just yourself, but it'd be a start.

Another possibility would be to subscribe to the Insider briefly and download a bunch of their adventures and then just play through the encounters they've laid out in them.

Another option is to pick up the Dungeon Delve Book.  Its a series of encounters that just sort of keep going and get you from 1-20 iirc.
Currently working on making a Dex based defender.  Check it out here
