Where'd they go? I remember downloading the play-test packet that first included them, but I didn't have the time to play-test then and I've since had to scrub most of my computer's harddrive. I'm a University student, and most of my D&D group are friends I've been playing with since highschool, and we were planning on doing a playtest when we were all back home during Christmas break. To make an already unecessarily long story a little shorter, I've downloaded the most recent playtest packet, and was a little disheartened to find that the Sorceror wasn't in there, as what little I remember about their new iriteration from skimming the previous playtest sounded interesting, and I was hoping to play as one. Were they taken out entirely or just moved to a different pdf file? Or is my packet just missing the part of the classes section that has them?

WoTC took them out of the most recent playtests so they could adjust them. They will be brought back, but we're not sure how they will look. It makes me nervous to be honest, but hopefully they will be back soon and better than ever

Yes, the introduction of the Warlock and Sorcerer pretty much highlighted how much additional work the core classes needed. So they took a step back to work on them. They will return, and probably not too long from now according to this weeks L&L article.

I didnt mind the sorcerer lvls 1-5, but saw alot of problems at later levels by using all their willpoints on highest lvl spells and that way automatically getting all their dragonbuffs in the process.

sadly most of the complaints people made against the sorcerer were invalid because they were either A) a complaint against that particular origin, not the class mechanic itself B) complaining because it is a new mechanic

My wife really enjoyed the Sorcerer. I thought it was a great start, and with a little work could really be a lot of fun. I cant wait til they bring it back

The lack of that sorceror in the latest really depressed my interest quite a bit, inspite of having more levels to chew on.
I worry the replacement wont be as flavorful or interesting

Norman, do you want a copy of the playtest with the sorcerer in it? It only goes up to level 5, which might not be suitable for your group. But, if you want it (and they're okay w/ you playing the class) I can send you the older playtest. Otoh, there's a very decent chance that the sorc will be put back into the playtest before Christmas.

I never really liked the sorceror because of all the background fluff. Better to just let players make their own fluff up. I can see a case for a caster who have fewer range of spells but more flexibility within it, but I don't really think its necessary. I'd rather just have some wizard speciality that gave the user some powers associated with dragon blood. Would be cool as you could roleplay being a wizard and do the whole gradual connecting with your dragon heritage thing. Likewise I'd rather just have some wizard speciality that gave the user some demon/devil/fey pact powers over time instead of having warlocks. Would be cool as you could roleplay being a wizard at the start and do whole the gradual turning to the dark side thing. I kind of think its best to keep the core classes to just the real 'core' and roleplay their gradual mastery of their specialities. Like paladins - would be cool to be a fighter who is a bit religious and gradually roleplay the whole gradual spiritual enlightenment thing. So fighter with maybe a paladin-like speciality. Anyway I'm not completely averse to more classes (despite my rule bloat paranoia), I can just house rule some of them out - but I would like to see more specialities.
