Meat is ... well, calling it 'murder' is a bit much, so let's just say it's controversial.  The point is, you should be eating more more nuts.

Why?  Cow farts are one of the biggest contributers to the "global warming" issue, so by eating lots of steak I'm doing my part to kill off the cows and reduce emissions.

I buy only pastured, grass-fed, grass-finished beef.  The best protein comes from animals.  It must have a face, and you must take its essence into your body.

Back on topic, Wizards needs to get rid of the "Doneness: Sirloin must be of medium well doneness" line.  I never eat medium well.  I always eat medium rare or rare.  Medium well is okay as an option, but the entire range of doneness needs to be available for every steak.  If people want to restrict their own tables to Medium well sirloins and well-done ribeyes, then that's okay.  I want the entire gamut of doneness for all my steaks.

I grew up on a farm and if you've never had 100% grass-fed beef, oh you're missing out on the best beef (at least outside of wagyu beef, I've yet to try that but hear it's fantastic - mmmm..., 100% grass-fed wagyu beef)...

I recently learned this little trick though, try it next time you have steak.  Cook it normally, however you like it, and then drop a large pat of butter on top of it and let it melt (or if you want to be healthier or something, use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter - that's good stuff too).  Then consume.  The first time I tried that, it was the best steak I ever had and I've had plenty of good steak before...
Now to try it on a bacon-wrapped steak (or a 100% grass-fed bacon-wrapped wagyu beef steak) promptly followed by either a long work-out or a heart-attack - either way, I'll be happy...Cool

I thought it was the only one on these boards that actually knew those health facts. One of the reasons those butter-substitutes are so bad (for me in particular) is they have certain oils in them, that butter doesn't, that loosen the esophagial muscle. This makes my heartburn much, much worse. Really, any kind of oil that loosens that muscle is a bad idea if you have even moderate heartburn. Peppermint oils too. I cried when I found out about that.

Actually, the best steak I've ever had was at a Ted's Montana Grill (I think that's the name, anyway) in Reston, VA. This is the place that asked me the best question ever when I ordered my steak. I ordered the cut I wanted, and the waitress returned "Would you like that as beef, or bison?" to which I replied "Oh, bison please."

BEST. STEAK. EVER.

This is why if I ever have a time machine, I'm going to go back to where people would shoot bison from the rail cars and leave them to die, and I'm taking rocket launchers with me. We'll see if they like it when the bison shoot back. And then we will eat them. Er....the bison. Not the people.

As a former cook at a steakhouse I am a steak purist.  Imo a steak should stand on its own.  Pepper, salt, maybe some garlic rub, that's it.  And no temp above medium rare.  Any temp above med rare dishonors the steak and its consumer.  Mashed taters on the side.  Keep your filthy pork away from my sweet sweet juicy steak!  Actually just put it on a side dish and I'll eat that also.
Flag Zaramon November 17, 2012 3:14 PM PST
My father does steak by hitting it with a tenderizer for 20 minutes and then slow-grilling it over charcoal. He rarely does anything to it beyond that, and it is sooooo juicy, tender, and delicious. He'll cook them to whatever degree the rest of the family wants for their personal steaks, but I never get mine done beyond medium, and prefer a fair amount of pink in the middle.

I tried a buffalo steak once. Way too sweet for my taste. Maybe it was just the way it was cooked (the wife and I were at a restaurant), but it really didn't impress me that much. If it hadn't cost as much as it did, I might not have finished it.

Now to try it on a bacon-wrapped steak (or a 100% grass-fed bacon-wrapped wagyu beef steak) promptly followed by either a long work-out or a heart-attack - either way, I'll be happy...

You know that saturated fat that everyone says is horrible for you and will cause arteriosclerosis?  Turns out, it's actually extremely healthy.  And those polyunsaturated fats like margarine that are supposed to be really healthy?  Turns out they're the very opposite.

Steak with butter is good.  It's awesome, actually.  You should try it.  A medium rare ribeye or strip with a pat of herb butter on top?  Amazing.

Also, any naturally fed or wild animal is much, much healthier for you than the traditional "shove it in a box and force-feed it corn to fatten it before slaughter" animal whose meat you get in the supermarket.  So yeah, buy natural fed and/or wild even though it's more expensive (unless you catch it yourself), be that free range chicken, 100% grass-fed beef or bison, wild boar, forest-fed pigs, etc.  It's lower in fat and calories and higher in flavor too - why would you not want that?

Corn is an abomination.  Seriously, investigate it and what it does to the animals they force feed with it because it's doing the same thing to you whether you eat the corn yourself, or via some animal's flesh that ate it.  Unfortunately, corn is in everything.

My diet consists of grains, vegetables,  and nuts, but if there's meat on the table I'll eat it.

Meat is fine, but don't forget your vegetables. Also, make sure to eat carbohydrates. If you don't get enough carbohydrates, your body converts protein into carbohydrates leaving ammonia in your body as a byproduct.

It seriously depends on what kinds of fats you intake. You shouldn't eat butter or margarine, to be honest. Oils are usually good for you in moderation.

Remember to drink plenty of water and exercise regularly or else it won't matter what you eat.

The restaurant my friend works at has some nice veel.

Funny, but incorrect.  In fact, many people who follow healthy high-fat diets are dairy-free.  You know that movie Super Size Me, where that guy ate at McDonalds for a month and gained weight?  There's another movie out there called Fat Head, where a guy eats at McDonalds for a month and actually loses weight.

The intake of fat on its own does not make the body fat.  It's the excess of sugars in the modern diet that does that.

Yep. Though it is true that excess protien likewise turns into fat. But generally people don't get enough quality protien. And there are degrees in quality for things like protiens, just like fats.

Corn is NOT an abomination. It's a great food... for creatures that are properly suited to be seed-eaters. Humans, being omnivores, can handle it in small quantities (plus we partially pre-digest our food externally - we call it "cooking").

But cattle? They are leaf-eaters, not seed-eaters. Not even omnivores. Grain-fed beef cattle are normally butchered at 18 to 24 months, and it's a good thing because around half of them already have liver damage that is obvious to the UNtrained naked eye.

Cattle are herbivores and thus not omnivores - you've got that right.  But they are grazers, primarily grass-eaters, and they eat more than just the leaves of the grass plant, they eat the whole damn thing.

What we call corn is the seed of a cereal plant, which is a type of grass.  It was a wild grass that we domesticated and through thousands of years of selective breeding have turned into the abomination that it is now.  Oats, Rye, Wheat and Barley are also a seed of the cereal plant, and are thus also grasses.  Wheat, Rye, Barley and Oats are quite happily eaten, along with lots of other grasses (including the grass seeds, being a part of the whole plant) by cattle.  Corn, not so much...Wheat, Rye, Barley, Oats, Corn - one of these things in not like the others...

Besides, corn tastes like crap.Tongue Out
